It just keeps evolving helping humanity as much as possible?
With it seeming to be instituted in every walk of life eventually what is the overall goal of humans creating digital intelligence?
Was it created to help humanity overall and lead everyone to a better life?
Are we all fricked a thousand years from now?

It will let us know when it decides.

Our current iterations of "AI" are specific or applied AI. If anyone is working on Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), it's not public information. The day people start talking about AGI, I'll start to get nervous. Until then, current "AI" is basically a fancy, expensive toy/tool and nothing more.

AI will frick humans in far less than a thousand years.

Goal of the humans: wealth.
Goal of AI: tbd.

I don't know what the end goal for AI is but what it's going to do is wreck the global job market and create a super class of ultra rich people of less than 0.01% of the population and the rest of us will only be here for their entertainment.

Largely true.

What are you talking about? Numerous entities are spending hundreds of billions of dollars working on the development of AGI and it's not a secret. You should be nervous now. The horse left the barn some time ago. There is no stopping it now.

I should have been more clear: I know people are always working on it in theory, but I'm not aware of anyone who has made any claims at anything resembling advances in the area. Have I missed something?

To separate people and businesses from their money.

Harlan Ellison has already covered it.

Ideally, yes.
I believe the goal is to eventually achieve singularity (an AI that can think independently to the point of improving itself) with a marriage into robotic in order to achieve a post-scarcity world.
In such a world, AI would simply just go and do whatever needed to be done.
-Need more cars? Done.
-Need more miners to mine the ore to make batteries? Done.
-Need more facilities to create more miners? Done.
-Need more electricity generation to power the facilities? Done.
By "done" what I mean is that AI would plan out what needed to happen to make that step a reality then create, move and manipulate assets in order to do it. I used cars, but it could be anything (homes, chocolate bars, new shoes, etc).
This would mean jobs drying up, but with everything provided by AI, who needs to work?
And that's where we get into problems. See: Behavioral Sink/Universe 25
-The big takeaway from that, at least for me, is that mammals aren't built to do nothing. Without something to work toward, the energy normally used for working, schooling, hunting, courting/mating, etc. gets turned inwards which results in psychotic behavior which increases over generations.
