The Tiger Town name worked better when there was still a grocery store, a theater, music shops, lots of food options, and those sorts of things. The abandoned businesses, half a dozen smoke shops, and constant garbage on the streets just doesn't have the same vibe.

Home of the Halloween Block Party. At least it was when it was in Tiger Town during the late seventies early eighties.

Didn’t get cut down til the early 2000’s. I want to say 2005/06 was the last year it was “hosted” as an unsanctioned thing

The courtyard at those Varsity Village apartments had some crazy shite too. It looks a lot nicer now - it was NASTY back in the day.

It’s The Bottom and that is McKinley area a bit farther down Highland starting around W McKinley Street around the Der Wienerschnitzel or so.

It’s also known as South Baton Rouge.

Old South Baton Rouge.

South Baton Rouge is I-10 as the northern boundary. Then Essen/Starring/Gardere as the western boundary.

My parents (graduated early 80s) call it Tiger Town but by the time I was there (early 2010s) it was North Gate
