Question, do you use iPhone or Android?
LG
Droid.
You'll never go back. 570 gigs of storage. And the LG software is legit.

I actually do like LG's platform. That being said, I absolutely hate the security features on andriod phones.

Android. I switched back to iPhone for a year and absolutely hated it. Never again.

Macs are the superior personal, home machine, especially if you have a ton of Apple products that sync with it. Great for light use and fun personal projects.
For business purposes, they don't hold a candle to Windows. We have both for this reason.

Seems like people willing to overpay for laptops also like to overpay for coffee?

If you mean the lack of stock security, yes and no.

People like coffee and computers. Starbucks and Apple are the reliable brands in those categories. You know what you are getting at Starbucks and at Apple regardless if you are paying more for it. It's an "easy" choice pushed by fantastic marketing that makes the slightly more expensive option a "safe" call strictly for peace of mind. This isn't necessarily the way I think, but it's how these companies are so good at what they do.

MacBooks are common personal computers for younger professionals who live in urban areas, which is where most of your people working/studying in coffee houses are going to be.
It's not shocking.

Exactly. Overpriced laptop meets overpriced coffee.

It's a status symbol that they can pay 2k for a $500 email/facebook machine

I hate the mac OS. And for a work machine Windows has much bigger range of compatibility.
