Reading between your lines…

(Editing: downvotes for advice to follow your DNA wiring…my money is downvoters on anti depressants or should be, divorced or both). Beware.

My 2 cents. Start with who you are wired to be (DNA), incl your likes, “flow” (the things that you do naturally and enjoy).

Go do that. Don’t look back.

However, if your starting mindset is “find high paying jobs”, you may be miserable, unless your wiring aligns.

Your parents & God made you who you are. Start there.

I always chuckle at the “STEM” chanters. If wired to STEM, STEM away. If not wired to STEM, do not STEM.

Your future self may thank me.

Electrical engineers are still very hard to come by. Computer engineers with embedded software experience.

Maybe Hvac owners. I know of 3 techs in the past year that found other gigs than spending time in people's attics. From the way they talk, I don't think you could pay them enough to go back to that grind.

Also some sad comparisons

300k salary in 2026 is equivalent to 126k salary in 1990

Civil engineer isn’t as sexy as the others but the work tends to be steady. Definitely not enough graduates coming out.

What a terrible mindset. Imparts depression. Yikes!

One anti depressant pill today is equivalent to .426 of an anti depressant pill in 1990, as well.

(1+k)^n

Time value / inflation has been here for a long n. Investing return > inflation, no pill req’d. Do it!

Returns mock inflation.

Manufacturing depending on where you live.

A talented machinist can make six figures. A guy with a background in automation/instrumentation is an easy six figures. An engineer who specializes in manufacturing can easily make $125k plus.

A lot of people don't want these jobs or don't know anything about them.

These are truly Shreveport levels of pay standards. I was making twice that with a $200 certification 20 years ago.

Not everyone has entrepreneurial skills to run a business. Majority of tradesmen will never crack six-figures.

Power Market Analyst.

While these jobs are not very popular in Louisiana yet, there is a need. You do not need an engineering degree but can work for a Generation and Transmission company, power marketing companies, consultants and large utilities. They generally pay well, can be north of 150K but I've seen some in the low 200s with experience. Skills are generally business, finance, and economic related.

you can hustle I would get into sales.

Selling what? lol. “Sales” is such a stupid answer for this type of thread.

The people who make money selling things do so because they have a specialized product that they have knowledge of or about.

If you can hustle you can make money selling anything. It’s really as simple as that.

Edit: Are there some things that will net more? Of course, but a hard working salesperson in any industry can make $200k.
