Valet company said they’re submitting to their claims department and will get back with me in morning. Truck still not recovered
The valet guy you gave your keys to has to get mitts put on him at a bare minimum

You owed them your truck you white supremacist.

This! If they can’t produce that key, I’d absolutely let whomever is responsible that you believe they are culpable in this and you are going to explore that.
I’d let them know that a new replacement truck is all that will satisfy you, regardless of what their insurance says.
I looked at the Westin website for New Orleans and it says “Valet Parking” on their website. It doesn’t say “third party valet parking” or “valet parking available”, etc. I’d be calling Marriot corporate immediately.

I will about guarantee you somewhere on the valet ticket there is fine print stating Westin not responsible.
Cool thing about those contracts is they tend to disappear when you start posting receipts on social media.
Had an apartment tell me it wasn't their fault someone stole all my shite out of a car in a paid parking spot that was supposedly protected. Sure as frick reimbursed me after I reached out on social media to their parent company noting that the criminals could have just as easily raped one of the co-eds that lived in the same apartment complex, tagging the local news agency and asking what they would do to make it safe again. It sucks, but you have to force a lot of these companies to make the decision between reimbursing you or dealing with someone that is in their target demographic.

Next time don't go to NOLA.

Waitll the 30 day waiting period is over and your insurance pays the claim then jacks your policy up because they paid a claim against your policy.

Do like I did. Move , and never come back

I just don’t really know my next steps. I filed a claim through insurance, filed the police report, and Premier Parking is working with their claims department. Chances of recovering my truck are pretty Nil in my opinion, so what do I do about getting a new truck? This one was paid for and I wasn’t expecting to buy one anytime soon, but I probably won’t get enough from insurance to cover a new vehicle

We need to go back old school and us those orange locks that go through the steering wheel. I’m sure Dontavious can just cut it though. Never question a thieves ability or motivation. If they want it bad enough, they can steal anything.

I had a coworker had his truck stolen in NOLA. It was recovered on day 28 right before the insurance cut a check. The detective told him its quite common and if a vehicle is found (parked where it will be found) within 30 days, the investigation stops and takes heat off the thieves. Theyll go get another vehicle.

. The thieves disabled my onstar and camera footage shows people in ski masks taking it within an hour of it being parked. Sick to my stomach
Why? It’s their fault, it’s just a car, be patient and file a claim. But fight to make sure you’re better off, this is more than an inconvenience.

The wife beater T-shirt is completely disrespected in this arena.

Go up and look at my post a few above this one. The powers that be are going to tie you up in call backs and phrases like “we don’t have the power” and “this is all we can offer”. They are going to drag you down in the details and let you flounder there.
Let me explain the situation that you find yourself in. A representative of the Westin, owned by Marriot hotels potentially participated in the theft of your automobile while it was in the care of the Westin, owned by Marriot hotels.
Tomorrow morning, call Marriot corporate and talk to the highest person you can reach and tell them based on the totality of circumstances, it’s reasonable to believe a representative of their hotel was complicit in the theft of your vehicle due to the fact they can’t produce your key. Tell them you’ve done all the right things but you feel that considering this was done on their watch and they can’t produce the key to your vehicle they are responsible. Tell the person that you will call back in 24 hours to give them time to unravel the situation and come to a reasonable resolution before you take further steps.
Leave it at that.

Do you have rental car coverage? You've got some waiting ahead of you so hopefully you can get a rental for the next 30 days.

So they are just joy riding in stolen vehicles or do they go to chop shops/Mexico?
If I was a criminal Mexican that’s what I would do. Steal cars, tractors, heavy machinery and then high tail it to Mexico and drop it off at the ranch. Then go back for more.
Do they screen for stolen cars before they cross into Mexico?

Can’t steal a Tesla or higher brand EV. Those shits would have to tow it to get it to move without the digital key.
Posted on 7/13/25 at 10:41 pm to RedPants
So how do you valet it?
Edit: a digital key doesn’t seem like an EV only feature at all. There’s no reason a new ICE vehicle couldn’t have one and I’m sure some do. You just don’t have a regular key fob I guess? That’s not an advantage

My favorite thread ever when you recovered the stolen motorcycle in Mississippi. Epic. Something like "I’m going to Mississippi with a trailer and coming back with a motorcycle"
. And you did.
The only thing lacking was any and all "officials" declining to pursue criminal charges,

It has a valet mode you turn on and hand them a credit card style key. But if that shite even had a door handle touched while in valet mode, your phone alerts you and you can shut down the entire vehicle from your phone. No ignition, so nothing to hot wire.
