I'm surprised it was Sugarland that came up with the bright idea to pay millions to test gondolasfor the Indians to commute into Houston, not Austin.

fricking gondolas.

How stupid are you?

[quote]we as consumers still end up paying world market prices.[/quote

Hard to believe a global commodity... produced all over the world... sold on the same markets all over the world... and we end up paying the same as everyone else for oil.

It's really hard to believe isn't it?

You could ride your bike, soy boy. Also, get out of the way with your little alien helmet and spandex. There is absolutely nothing cool about cyclists

Uhhhh Western Europe is about $11 a gallon for regular gas right now.

We’ll be under $4 in September.

Yes, that’s how commodities work

Adjusted for inflation for gasoline’s high EIGHTEEN years ago, gas today is still a bargain.

Sounds like you don't know what the frick you are talking about. In 1950 gas was.. Around .25 a gallon.. Today it should be around $2.60 a gallon.

In 1970 gas was around $0.34 a gallon. It didn't reach a dollar or more a gallon until the 80s. What's crazy is that in 2004 gas was still less than $2 a gallon. Right now, in the US, the average gas prices are $4.50. That's not a bargain.

I am sick of all the fighting over oil. The middle East can suck it.

For once, we're not fighting over oil. We're fighting to maintain our access to rare earths, advanced semiconductors, and half a dozen other geopolitical chips to even the playing field with China, who was on the brink of putting the US permanently in the corner just 6 months ago. Oil is one of those chips, but we have free access to it, they don't right now. Things have changed now, maybe permanently, maybe not.

Most of you will TL:DR this, but for the few that want to learn, here's a 1 hour read on the situation: The Complete Primer: From Iran to China and the guide to the Trump-Xi Summit

We've only been exporting crude for 10 years. From 1975 to 2015 we banned exporting crude. Still had high gas prices during that time.

You do realize that that almost everything you buy has oil in it right?

Much of the oil produced here is better for refineries in other countries than in the refineries here.

Think about “ how much oil and gas we produce in the U.S.”…

Who precisely is “we”?

The U.S. govt is not in the business of producing or selling oil. Department of Interior does not have VPs w/bonuses or future career opportunities linked to sale of oil & gas.

XOM, Chevron, Shell, BP, etc do. Oil is a commodity that has value around the world. Billions of $ of value. And markets are linked although not the same in all parts of world. Arbitrage exists. Geo political dynamics are real drivers.

All to say, when the “US is producing” barrels in GoA, for example, those hydrocarbons are owned and marketed by and for oil companies, led by people whose career and bonuses are linked to profit.

Electricity is more localized, by comparison. Electrons physically flow on local grids and are not global.

If only we can harness that big nuclear reactor in the sky and galaxy’s most abundant element hydrogen…

If we were to build a civilization from scratch, this is where we focus for good of humanity and its future generations.

Consumerism today is married to our economic system that sits tightly on oil & gas backbone. Just is.

My guess by your username is that you are a cyclist. I raced and road bikes for 20+ years. I had a hippie commie anti-oil person like you on my racing team. We were sitting around after a training ride one day and they said how much they hated oil and thought that we should do away with it completely. I laughed and said, do you realize that that bicycle you have your leg thrown over would not exist without oil? Almost everything on it is either made with oil or got to you by the use of oil. Without oil you would have no tires, you would have no inner tubes. You would have no paint on the bike. You would have no oil on the chain even. You’re coming from a place of ignorance in your thoughts.

That shut them up with a quickness.

Liberal hippies are proudly wrapped in their emotions and ignorance of facts.

Be better.
