I did a search on my Brave browser and a TD thread came up with this post...
Added from same thread...

You must not have been around in the 80's when Ossie Brown shut down the rock concerts at the Centroplex and put B.R. on the map of places for music acts to avoid.

seem to remember that it was Pat Screen and his merry Baker Bible Thumper's that shut it down. This was in response to the AC/DC, For Those About to Rock Tour concert in 84 or 85. I was there for that one and it was a grade a shite show show but I also had front row tickets to Ozzy Osbourne a few weeks later and with that concert pending they moved fast to cancel the Ozzy Concert. He ended up playing at the fair grounds but it pretty much sucked as a venue.
at least that is how I remember that shite going down.

SE La was a major stop back in the 70s, 80s and 90s. I've seen 1500+ concerts and the majority of them were in SE La.
We have tickets to Duran Duran as well as Depeche Mode later this year in NOLA. May catch the Pixies with Franz Ferdinand in June, too. I just moved from DFW to Hattiesburg so the lack of concerts in this area compared to DFW is a difficult pill to swallow.
We'll travel for a good show if need be. Our love for live music is too strong.

Elvis, The King of Rock and Roll, played the PMAC twice in 1974, once in 1976 and twice in 1977.

The Varsity used to get some great acts back in my early 2000s days at LSU.
I just checked their site and seems like it's the same cover bands playing that place the past 20 years. Zoso and Chee Weez

Did anyone ever go to the parent company of Parrains Christmas party at the Varsity? Fun times

EBR DA Ossie Brown and Jimmy Swaggert pretty much shut the rock concert scene down in BR. They even gave Conway Twitty a hard time.
The city lost a lot money because of these two assholes.

NOLA had plenty of club shows. The bigger artists tended to go to the PMAC and/or the MS Gulf Coast Colliseum.
Lakefront Arena was kind of too big for the smaller groups and too small for the larger groups.
SELA has always had a pretty decent music fest scene as well, at least before Covid.
I think post Covid a lot of artists are having trouble getting tours together. Costs are way up and people aren't willing to pay $100 a ticket to see an average show. So only the huge headliners seem to make sense to go on tours right now.

quote:Yes they had a lot of great concerts. My first concert ever was ZZ Top there in 74. The link below is most, if not all, the cncerts held there.
The warehouse back in the day had to be awesome. My parents enjoyed many concerts there
The Warehouse - concert listings
but it could be hot as hell in there.

Or the House of Blues? I saw Bone Thugs n Harmony there about 15 years ago.

Interesting factoid about Ponchatoula. I'm a Texan who now claims Louisiana so I'm not super familiar with all the local history. Pretty cool that those acts came through Ponchatoula. Incidentally I've got some country music singer portraits for sale in a little art shop over there. They're flying off the shelves

I saw AC/DC, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Dio, Judas Priest, Phil Collins, REO Speedwagon and many more in NOLA in the 1980s. I have been told the taxing of events here as a reason that artists are not stopping here now.
