It's curious that you seem to believe the father did this intentionally. None of us is infallible.

Of that I have no doubt. Arrogance is a common trait among sociopaths.

Your indignation strikes me as shallow and ingenuine. It's callous. It's performative. You lack empathy, and you lack the capacity for forgiveness. I'd suggest you seek psychiatric help, but unfortunately your affliction is incurable.

Opinions like this and the vitriol that would follow from media cunts like Nancy grace are likely the reason this dude killed himself.

Having another child still alive would be the only thing that kept me from suicide most likely.

Same for me. I didn't read the article yet, but I hope he and his wife have another child besides his toddler. I can't imagine how she is getting through without them.

One of the comments in the article:

quote:

So unimaginably sad. I fully understand his immense grief. Please get the word out: There are several very effective units available to stop this from happening. One of them alerts you every time you leave the vehicle and asks if your child is with you. The other sounds an alarm when the vehicle is turned off and there is still pressure on the child seat. There are others just as effective. If I had a young child, I would have all of them. Please tell others and maybe even buy one as present for those you know with infants.

I have told people put a fricking sticky note on your wheel that says GET CHILD. Anything to not make that deadly mistake.

I've heard a few tricks like that as well. Leaving your phone in the seat next to them.. or leaving the car keys if you have push start.. etc.

The poster below you with the shoe idea - that's a good one.

This is exactly how it happens. We often go on autopilot based on our routine. These situations seem to almost always happen when the parent who isn’t in the routine of taking the child to daycare has that responsibility on the tragic day. They go on auto pilot and miss the trip to the daycare.

Exactly. A creepy pasta story was posted on TD several years ago that illustrated this very point. It’s called “Autopilot.” The fact that this dad was so distraught that he killed himself tells me that what happened in his situation is probably very close to what happened in the story.

Autopilot

I know someone who ran over their kid on accident. Backed up over him in a truck. He has like 7 other kids and I guess he lost track of that one on a family trip. Was such an awful story.

But the few days ever that my wife dropped them off before work, she didn't forget them in the back seat.......

Over 3.6 million babies are born in the US every year. If there’s a 0.001% chance that one of those babies’ parents will at some point during their infancy make the mistake of forgetting they are in the back seat, that’s ~36 deaths a year. Which is close to the actual number.

It’s not common, but it is tragic. You can feel empathy for those parents without absolving them of guilt.

Look, I am not perfect by any means, people make mistakes, but I will never understand how a parent forgets a child in the car.

My wife and I don't really have many situations where this is likely (we don't do daycare), but we've nonetheless started putting our bag/purse in the back every day so we have to open the back to get it out at work.

Read up on the home depot dad case in Georgia from a few years ago. Talk to you later.
It sounds like you need to. Check to see if they had evidence the dad left the child in the car intentionally?
