At about 11:42 a.m., police received a call indicating an 18-month-old male child may have been left in an unattended vehicle for several hours. Police soon received additional information indicating the child's father was at his residence in the 14100 block of Aldengate Road and was making suicidal statements

Investigators have so far indicated that the father accidentally left the child in the vehicle for several hours. When the father discovered the child deceased in the vehicle, he returned home and took the child inside the residence. He then reportedly exited the residence and shot himself
Of course part of me asks the question how the hell do you forget your toddler in a car. Another part understands that we are all human and make mistakes. Can’t imagine the thoughts going through his head when he realized hit little boy was dead.
Suicide is never the answer, in this particular moment I can see why it crossed his mind though. The mom will suffer
RIP.

damnit that's terrible

Not sure anybody ever recovers from accidentally killing your child. At least he didn't live a miserable life for the rest of his days.

Most people have far too much going on, thoughts are everywhere. Terrible thing

So did he.

Listen to that part.

Well that’s enough Internet for me today.

Honestly may do the same in that situation.

Considering he killed himself, I'm imagining the thoughts going through his head were along the lines of, "My life is over."

I'm not so sure. In his case, he would have to live with that guilt as long as he was alive. Perhaps it was too much for him. To be honest, if I were in his position, it might be too much for me as well. I'm not willing to judge.

Saved the courts some time and the taxpayers housing him for life in prison
Good suicide
Good suicide

This is always a fear of mine. My little one talks so much in the car I doubt anyone could forget him. He RARELY falls asleep in the car too, and most places I go with him are for him (swim lessons, ice cream, shoe shopping). I have a 19 year ld daughter that watches him some times and I always remind her he is in the car. Teenagers can have their head in the clouds. I have told people put a fricking sticky note on your wheel that says GET CHILD. Anything to not make that deadly mistake. I would want to kill myself too if I did that.

Might be weird, but I take a shoe off and leave it on the floor in front of my nieces and nephews when I'm driving them around while babysitting. It works.

This is why the "Suicide is nothing but selfish" notion is pretty ridiculous. I don't know anyone who wouldn't either attempt or have significant suicidal ideation after something like that. I can't imagine the absolute distress he was in when that happened.

When I first became a parent, this was a fear of mine as I seemed to see news stories about it happening all the time. Several years later, I now don't know how that possibly happens. The kid should be the first thing removed from the car.
edit: and before the naysayers come out, in all of these cases, you'll probably find that they remembered to get their phones and wallets/purses.

I've heard of quite a few people who do this or women who put their purses in the back with the child.

Awful. I've caught myself twice forgetting to go to the daycare and heading straight to work, then catching myself halfway there and had to turn around.

I don't think I could kill myself, but something like this would get me closer to it than pretty much anything else I think.

When parents are overworked, underslept and overburdened it can have strange effects on their mental state. While I never forgot my kids in the car, I can understand how it happens. Life is throwing so much shite at us, and we all need to take a moment to slow down a bit, especially when your children are involved. This is extremely sad and tragic.

I really don't know how this happens. When my two were little I would bring them to my in-laws every day. Some days when my wife would stay home and keep them, I would still drive to my in-laws before I realized they were at home with her. Even on days I would drop them off when I would get to work I turn around and look in the back seat. It happens, but I just can't understand how it happens. From the time I would get in my vehicle to the time I got out, I was constantly mindful of them being in the back seat.

Having another child still alive would be the only thing that kept me from suicide most likely.
