I don’t smoke but it was $14 bucks a pack in NYC in 2010 when I was in town. It seemed really high to me when I was buying a soda or a Gatorade at a convenience store. I wonder if it’s up to $20 a pack now up there.
I’m not surprised at the low rates. Nowadays when I’m in traffic and I see a driver smoking, I’ll think “damn, I haven’t seen that in a long time.” I would probably see it every other time I was on the road, two decades ago.

Where I am most people that smoke cigarettes are either poor, an immigrant, or a poor immigrant. Not always but the clear majority.

Smoking levels will continue to fall. I don't see a world where smoking is ever en vouge again.
When smokers are a tiny group they'll probably eventually just be banned outright because it won't be politically damaging to do anymore

I’ve seen very few immigrants smoke, unless we are referring to men from the Middle East.
I bet the growing number of Hispanics, Africans, Indians, and East Asians are leading to lower percentages, though I’m sure it’s down across all demographics.

A man ain't a man if he doesn't smoke

People used to smoke on airplanes.
People smoked just about everywhere except in church.
I can remember people smoking in hospitals and only not allowed to smoke in a room if oxygen was in use.
I quit old turkey 23 years ago and you couldn't get me to put another cigarette to my lips on a bet.

I watched my grandfather die from lung cancer in the late 60s as a 5-year-old. It made quite an impression on me, so I was always skiddish about cigarettes, never really smoked. My wife was a smoker, but she quit close to 30 years ago. From my experience with her and a few other ex-smokers, nobody hates the smell of people smoking more than ex-smokers.

For me, that is a true statement. I still went to bars to play darts and pool when smoking was still allowed in them-----------but absolutely hated how I smelled afterwards.
Unfortunately for me, my wife STILL smokes. She attempted to quit in 2002 when I did but only lasted 2 weeks and went right back.
I've told her if I was a single man and just meeting her now, there'd be no way in hell I'd even date her due to her cigarette habit.

My Dad refuses to quit. Is starting to develop COPD and needed oxygen after a recent outpatient procedure because of it. Then bitches that he has to use the oxygen. Just frustrating.
My mother smoked most of her life. No method or gimmick helped, and no amount of pleading on our part helped. Finally we just resigned ourselves to it. In her mid seventies, a bout of flu put her in the hospital. The day she was released, the doctor came in, asked her some questions, and turned to leave. Almost as an afterthought, she turned back around and asked my mother if she smoked. When my mother replied yes, the doctor said "aw honey, not any more you don't. "
That's all it took. My mother never picked up another cigarette. Unfortunately the damage was already done, but at least for the last ten years of her life she was free of that addiction.

I loved smoking cigarettes and don’t regret it. You people sound like a bunch of upper middle class white women living in suburban Chicago.

In the 50's and 60's it was not uncommon for a doctor to have a lit cig in the examination room with you.
That brought back a memory. For reference, I'm 72-I was about 6 and at my best friends house. It was winter and I was having trouble zipping my jacket. His Mom was a nurse and she handed my buddy her lit cigarette while she helped me with my coat.
My 12th grade physics teacher smoked a pipe in class. We had a smoking area behind the cafeteria and one of the football coaches would give his players cigarettes as long as they were 16.

Many East Asians and European immigrants smoke where I am.
When I was last in Paris, they still had people smoking at almost every outdoor restaurant table and at least one restaurant that I went to even allowed it indoors.

Sounds kind of high. That is a lot of people having unprotected sects.

That was the odd thing with my wife. She somehow managed to never smell or taste like a cigarette. But she did not smoke a lot, so that may have been the reason.
