LONG READ BUT THE FAMILY IS DESPERATE AND ASKING FOR YOUR HELP

This is going to be somewhat of a long read. I’m to the point now that I feel it’s needed and probably overdue. All receiving this need to read and consider what I’m saying instead of immediately thinking I’m off-base. Take time to consume before responding back. Lots, you won’t like what I’m saying. Time to get it out. We go to sleep with this crap (yes I’ve said crap) on our minds. We wake up with it on our minds. We get calls from Lynn McDermott, Nurse Case Manager of Hines & Associates, Inc. to keep it on our minds; plus the calls I’ve received from Collection Agencies wanting immediate payment of past due medical bills. Please someone give me a good (just a good, doesn’t have to be great) reason why after a YEAR, this insurance company can’t get a handle on paying bills due to knowing Nick has been listed under an alias…
Not much need to repeat, though I will. Nick didn’t ask to be shot July 17th, 2016. He was supposed to be on vacation, but was told he had to work or be suspended. So many told us of how sorry they were he was shot and anything and everything would be done to help Nick with survival and his future. Then we lost our home and everything with it. Not long after, the next nightmare began. Dealing with this healthcare insurance. Got calls from Lynn McDermott bringing up we need to tell her where we’ll be moving Nick to after a few months stay in the hospital. The push began and has never stopped. Kept hearing of how Nick’s wellbeing was only in mind. Sorry, that’s not been my take on this issue. It’s been how to cut expenses. Nick’s welfare is number 2. Saving a dollar is number 1. This insurance is not heartful, it’s heartless.

As said, not long after Nick was shot, we’ve been hearing of the need to move home. Where will home be we kept getting asked. Instead of trying to get Nick the best care available, it’s been trying to get Nick zero care or as minimal as possible. In moving into a home environment, he will still need daily therapy, which we can’t give. I had bypass surgery a few years ago and lost the use of my left lung. I was retired but Mary lost her job or “retired” as some tried to call it, so she/we could be with Nick. Due to that, our income fell off the cliff, and we’re burning away our retirement account day by day. Danielle quit her job and stays with Nick 24/7; but that’s not 365. When she has to leave for whatever reasons, doctors appointments and such, Mary then stays with Nick 24/7. Moving into a “home” environment, Nick will still need daily therapy but will still need to be transported there.

So we’re on the same page regarding us being with Nick 24/7. Part of that is due to making sure Nick gets timely medical care & attention whenever anything happens that causes a need. (How would you like an ostomy bag explosion, with feces going all over Nick? Happens in a flash without warning. In a nursing home environment, hours go by without being looked at.) He was SHOT by a vicious criminal. He has bad dreams. It helps for him to open his eyes and see faces he recognizes. The other part is for Nick’s Safety. People have attempted to get to Nick. At least one of those at OLOL was trying to finish the job of the shooter. I’m not making that up. Just check the records. We can’t and won’t take the chance on that not happening again. There is still a poster on the net calling for the demise of Deputy Nick Tullier. The criminal public environment of harming LEO’s hasn’t changed.

Monday a week ago, Mary got a call from Lynn McDermott about Nick needs to be medically retired so he can go on Medicare. Mary was trying to drive to Denham Springs to pickup warmer clothes for Nick and find files at our old house. Just after that conversation, she got rear-ended. Do you think we have great days? Enjoyable days? We make the best out of what’s given and try to see something good. But then get slapped back down by this type of push. To my knowledge, the Sheriff’s Deputies don’t pay into Social Security. As such, they are not able to be covered by Medicare. Even though I’ve said this many times in the past, it keeps raising its head back to us. Why? Are we wrong? Are we missing something? Instead of trying to figure out the best path forward for Nick’s required health & medical needs of the future, it really looks like effort is leaning towards let’s see how fast the insurance can get out of paying anything and everything for the present and future.

We lost our house in the flood and are still trying to settle with insurance. Louisiana Governor Edwards has now joined in trying to assist us with that nightmare. Even so, our old house will/would not facilitate Nick’s needs/abilities. 1917 designs, from when our house was originally built, didn’t look at ADA accessibility. After we ever finally settle, we’ll need to build a new house somewhere that will be ADA setup for Nick’s requirements. A gym area will be required.

We’ve been pushed out of TIRR in Houston where Nick was making tremendous strides in motor skills, to TLC (Transitional Learning Center) in Galveston where everything slowed down. The 1st week at TLC was mostly testing for them to get a feel of where Nick is at mentally and physically. It’s been proven that when Nick doesn’t get therapies daily, he can and will regress. Not long at TLC, stitches were removed from an arm surgery incision and had to be immediately replaced. The incision opened back up deep. Therapies had to be modified so as not to harm the arm.

TIRR Therapy Experts have written scripts for equipment they determined Nick needs. Only to have insurance in all their infinite wisdom turn it down. Who’s the expert? TIRR Therapists that had one on one contact with Nick for many months or some insurance rep that hasn’t seen Nick in person a day in their life???

Someone tell me who’s in charge. Someone tell me what position Lynn McDermott “truly” fills. Someone tell me who to contact with Healthscope Insurance (the Sheriff’s medical plan) directly. Someone tell me who with the Sheriff’s Dept is actually, truly, fighting for Nick that has the power to get something done and solved. I ask that to know who to include in correspondence.

I don’t want phone calls. I’m trying to make sure everyone is on the same page regarding Nick’s present and future health conditions and needs. I prefer to communicate via email. Keeps all on the same page by taking out verbal conversations that most don’t hear. I feel those needed to be in these emails should include myself, Mary, Danielle, Sheriff Sid Gautreaux, Alton Ashy, and an EBRSO HR rep at a minimum.

I want options. Moving Nick into a lowered form of care (nursing home type facility) or where we can’t be with him 24/7/365 is not acceptable, so don’t waste time brining that up…

Our concentration NEEDS to be and MUST be on Nick’s health and therapies. But every time we seem to turn around, we’re diverted away from that by Insurance issues. This has been and continues to be an Impossible Task for Us. You think we want this??? Try waking up in Our World. Or Wake Up In Nick’s World. He’s worried about it as well.
