UPDATE ON EBRSO DEPUTY NICK TULLIER (Another long read)

Insurance company has now given Nick Tullier an extension. Initially, Nick had to be out of TLC in Galveston by tomorrow. Nick moved from TIRR in Houston, TX to Galveston because insurance company told them they would no longer pay for TIRR. After their move to Galveston, they were told they had to be out by Nov. 7th. Now, even with an extension, they have not been told how long this extension is.

How you can help:

Home: The family needs a home or apartment in the Houston area. Insurance has told them they will pay for outpatient therapy at TIRR in Houston. However, the family has no clue where to start as to buying land and building or getting a home fixed for Nick or what. So, they need your help here. Contractors, any help you can offer or people familiar with Houston, if you know of a home or land, let them know. The home or apartment has to be handicap accessible obviously for Nick's needs.

Van: There is some talk of trying to get a van to transport Nick, but nothing has been secured so if you have any contacts there, let us know. Family needs a full-size handicap accessible van.

The frustrations remain as to how much insurance will cover and won't cover. No one is on the same page even within the insurance companies. They're taking it one day at a time. I just spoke with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff & he told me he's trying to get all parties together for a sit down meeting either Tuesday or Wednesday to get an update on Nick's insurance situation. He told me he would give me an update after the meeting.

Nick had a good weekend. His movement is getting stronger in BOTH arms now. Before, he could only move his left arm on a skateboard back and forth. Now, he can move his right as well. Nick has much more tongue movement in the last week, which will help with talking and swallowing and one day, eating. Legs are getting stronger and more consistent movement with his left leg as well. Nick is very slowly improving. He still can’t speak or walk on his own. Still requires around the clock care though Insurance has determined that doesn’t need to be by doctor or nurse. He requires daily therapy to keep forward progression. Cognitively, he is all there and answers all questions correctly during therapy.

Insurance hasn't gotten Nick a lift that picks Nick out of the bed or chair so his fiancé Danielle is physically picking him up to put him back and forth by herself.

Family thanks the hundreds, thousands of people who have reached out to them through all the different ways, made calls on their behalf, donated and continue to push for them through prayers.

This Friday, there's a lunch fundraiser for Nick from 11am-1pm at Oak Point Shopping Center in Central at 14485 Greenwell Springs Rd.

Here's a bit of information that MAY factor into Nick's inpatient rehab treatment situation. The patient being rehabbed HAS to be making continually progress. If the patient plateaus out, insurance doesn't wasn't to pay for them to stay there.

At that point, you can move them home and continue with outpatient therapy or move them into "Skilled Nursing Facility", aka - nursing home. In the Covington area the going rate for a sitter is $12 to $15/hr. Not an RN, but someone who at best is a nursing aid. So that's ~$288 to $360/day, 9 or 10 grand a month, that isn't covered by any insurance that I'm aware of.

It's a terrible situation to be in.

What a great gesture from a hero

Collection Agencies are trying to use scare tactics and humiliate a traumatized family. Outstanding debts from the hospital are sold by the insurance companies to collection agencies at a lower cost than what is owed. The hospital/insurance company writes these off and are declared as losses at the end of the year which actually helps them. The Tullier family needs to know a collection company cannot take what they do not have. There is no home, no wages to garnish. Forget about the outstanding bills.

Now, focus on the loss of the home. FEMA and the Restore Louisiana should be settling with you on the loss. If the home had a mortgage on it then the money will have to be used and the house repaired...if no mortgage - a home could be built for Nick's specific needs. If a message will be posted somehow for the public to see we could all come together and help build the home. Most of us retired people could work for free.

Income next...there has to be a plan in place for officers disabled in the line of duty.

Look at this. Disability payouts for officers injured in the line of duty. This money could be combined with the flood payout to build a really nice home for him and his family.
