I'm equal parts sad and furious after reading that. Is there a Go Fund Me or something?
Maybe Habitat for Humanity, or a similar agency, needs to step up for the house? How does that work? These people are truly in need and it sounds as if they're nearing the end of their rope. Can't say I blame them.

While I agree that some details are probably missing, there's a huge difference between a burn and all the surgeries Tullier has had and will continue to have... and his long term, constant care.
I could see the insurance company trying to cut him off.

I'm not doubting the sincerity of their post but some important detail(s) is missing.
There are comments on the FB page that say EBRSO is self insured therefore there is no workman’s comp & supposedly the EBRSO has final say on what / how long they will pay.
I have no clue how that works & if that’s true.
There were also comments about a Habitat for Humanity type of house.

I am sure they are.
Protocol for billing workmen's comp is directly to the employer. No policy is unlimited and they may well have maxed out the EBRSO's policy already and now they are on private coverage.
That's about the only way I can envision the family having to squablle with collections/billing at this stage.
Can't imagine a case with less wiggle room for the insurance provider than an officer getting ambushed and shot in the head by a homicidal maniac.

EBRSO is self insured
Good Lord and Baby Jesus. A disaster waiting to happen if I've ever seen one. I withdraw any questions about coverage for this man.
My question is now - who thought something with the meager financial means and the enormous risk exposure such a the EBRSO should self insure.
What a f'n mess.

I was under the assumption that the entire Louisiana Sheriff’s association was with blue cross. Guess not

How can we help WC?
I’m writing chandler Loupe now to ask for his assistance in this, it’s unbelievable this family has to deal with this.

Sheriffs deputies are considered appointed officials in the state LA and elected/appointed officials are exempted from comp in most circumstances. The parish could buy comp coverage to cover them if they desired.

How does that play into this? Strange. Maybe a family friend.

No. The bottom line is that his injuries were sustained in the line of duty, his insurance should have zero involvement in this. This is on the Sheriff's department

I don’t doubt this one bit. Insurance companies are the biggest disgusting pieces of monkey shite, on the planet.
They will do anything and everything in their power to not have to pay & provide the services that their clients HAVE to pay for. I’m dealing with them for my mother who has been dealing with health issues for the past year now.
For Nick and his family’s sake, I wish Nakamoto’s arse would go balls deep in this and start waving a microphone and camera in someone’s face.
Someone link the GoFundMe & I’ll donate right now. (I’m not on FB)
Keep fightin’ Nick!!! Let the people you used to protect return the favor.

I agree with your statement that the EBRSO should step up to the plate more than they are.
But to say the ins companies aren’t or shouldn’t be involved is a little ridiculous. I find it hard to believe that Officers aren’t offered some type of major medical policy underwritten by the many doucher insurance sleazebags in the EBR area.

Self insured doesn't mean an insurance company doesn't administer benefits.

If you are injured on the job with BRPD, your personal health insurance isnt involved at all. When you are admitted to the hospital, you dont provide your medical insurance info.
All costs are covered by worker's comp and all billing goes through the department. The individual officer does not see a bill. If one happens to be sent to the officer, it is turned over to the department and they take care of it. No copays on treatment or prescriptions

So the Sheriff’s dept does it differently?

We get calls from Lynn McDermott, Nurse Case Manager of Hines & Associates, Inc. to keep it on our minds; plus the calls I’ve received from Collection Agencies wanting immediate payment of past due medical bills. Please someone give me a good (just a good, doesn’t have to be great) reason why after a YEAR, this insurance company can’t get a handle on paying bills due to knowing Nick has been listed under an alias…
So is that an pretend insurance company that they are referencing???

From that state law linked above, it looks like it. Seems like the deputies are on their own with in the line of duty injuries. It is between the deputy and his medical insurance. The sheriff is off the hook
