To offset that, they’re going to go full throttle “who do you know” admissions

Maybe the scores should be dropped because apparently it's not a "standardized" test anymore. Kids with learning disabilities can get extra time to take the test. I guess their parents think when they enter the workforce employers will have to give them extra time to complete tasks as well.
quote:

The way extended time is administered is an important factor to consider for students with ADHD. On the SAT, students have extended time for each section, and when finished, must wait until the full time is up for that section before moving on to the next section. This can be very frustrating for students with ADHD who cannot sit quietly for extended periods of time. It also can cause fatigue, because the student is taking the last section of the test approximately 3½ hours from the time he started. The SAT extended time testing lasts 4 hours, 30 minutes without the optional essay. For students needing 100% extended time, the test is administered in the student’s home school over two days. The total time for 100% extended time is 6 hours.

On the ACT, the extended time testing is self-paced, which is a better option for most students with ADHD. The student can use his extended time in the way that benefits him best. He can spend double time on the math section, for example, and use the equivalent of standard time for the Reading section. If the student finishes in less than the 5 hours, he still has to sit, but at least he doesn’t have to gear up again to do more testing.

How many times have you been divorced? Same principle. Some people don’t test well. Some don’t marry well.

Private schools are going to have to get rid of that six point grading scale

No kidding. It makes you want to put your kids in the most basic school with a 10-point grading scale. I've never understood why classes aren't graded on a percent basis anyway. A 90 at one school may be an A, where it's a B at another.

Plus, there is so much variance in schools anyway. Standardized testing is the only real equalizer available.

More and more evidence is emerging that college is a total waste of time and money for most people. What a racket.

Ok, fine, but that is why admissions look at various things.

Some people are horrible at sports. Let’s make it illegal for admissions to factor sporting activity as an extracurricular

Some people suffer from horrible social anxiety. Let’s abolish clubs and orgs

Instead of trying to uplift people to a higher standard they are bringing everything down to the lowest common denominator.

What could go wrong

College is being treated like HS 2.0 and it's not. It really isn't for everyone. Not all people are "college material" so to speak. They just aren't, and no amount of leveling the playing field and dumbing the entrance requirements down to the lowest level will change that.

There might be an immigration angle to this.

Cal univ system is getting flooded with applications from China and India (combined population: 3 billion!). Every kleptocrat and corrupt businessman is spending a fortune for years of specialized tutoring teaching their children to game the standardized tests. I know a guy who makes a boatload doing this.

It's hard for them to tell Li Wang and Sandip Patel their perfect SAT scores aren't good enough, and there are hundreds and thousands of Wangs and Patels. On the other hand the schools don't want to come out with an anti-immigrant policy and say "we need to prioritize American citizens", especially after their four year temper tantrum over Trump's immigration policies.

Removing standardized test scores from the criteria gives them the leverage to construct student bodies that look, act and think the way they want them to.

Yep, and instead of seeing it for the mistake it is, they'll double down by lowering standards. The value of a college education is about to drop even more.

Haha black people live in you guy’s minds rent free. California is only 5% black, ACT and SAT being dropped wouldn’t be because they cared about black kids.

The only thing that will be used in admissions now is racial quotas.

I’m sure the high school you went to will become more of a factor.

Elites don’t want the kid they spend tons of money on to send to Phillips Exeter to lose out on their Dartmouth admission to Joe Smith from Public High just cause Joe got a better test score.

Right, this will benefit Hispanics more than any other group.

People here are assuming California has Louisiana's demographics.

Years ago Brown University started letting in regionally local inner city kids with good attendance and a 3.5 GPA. Pretty sure they didn't even look at standardized scores.

They probably wouldn't let me on campus to clean the toilets with a 3.5. Unless they get off on seeing a "dumb southerner" scrubbing shite. frick the lefties
