United didn't drag him out of his seat. The chicago police did. And now we know he is some shady doctor because he didn't listen to authority.

Overbooking is a ridiculous policy. Can you imagine if sports tickets worked that way? Oh yeah, here are your tickets to the big game, but you may or may not actually have a seat reserved.

If airlines insist on overbooking, then they should be held to a market-based solution wherein they keep upping the amount they offer until someone voluntarily accepts. I've read conflicting reports on whether United offered $800 or $1000, but either way it obviously wasn't enough b/c two people didn't accept it.

This incident is particularly bad for several reasons:
1. They made the decision to put their employees before passengers.
2. They let the passengers board and then asked for "volunteers".
3. The incident was recorded. Of course today, you can almost guarantee that things will be recorded, so it isn't that unusual.

I am sure their stockholders agree with this mentality.

Well, Rodney King was a POS. Fact of the matter is he still got paid just like this guy is going to do. The best thing for United is to get it out of the public eye and they know this. Right now they are just slinging shite in hopes to knock his settlement down.

Maybe the airline could have incentivized them to do so?

It would have been cheaper than the billion dollar hit UAL took today in its market cap.

The hit to the market cap today means nothing

Just bought 1,000 shares. Let's bump thread in a year and see how I did

If it lasts only today you're correct. With the current trajectory of the UAL CEO doubling down, it won't last just today .

How long are you anticipating the current CEO lasts?

eh, I think it benefits everyone in the long run. Simply put, United was wrong to stop their offer at $800. You keep going up until 4 people take it and eat whatever it costs you. Under no circumstance should someone who paid for their seat be forced to take an offer against their will.

Doesn't matter. Great earnings report comes out next week and nobody with real money in the market is going to care about Internet outrage

Let's see how it plays out in a year.

By then I might be able to sell some oceanfront property in Colorado to disgruntled UAL stockholders.

Could be is that the projection? BUT, you get a bad earnings report and the stock will tank really hard with that and their current PR.

I'm not gonna check every page, but here's a list from Reddit from somebody on that flight...

quote:

my comment reposted from a previously deleted thread:

I was on this flight and want to add a few things to give some extra context. This was extremely hard to watch and children were crying during and after the event.

When the manager came on the plane to start telling people to get off someone said they would take another flight (the next day at 2:55 in the afternoon) for $1600 and she laughed in their face.

The security part is accurate, but what you did not see is that after this initial incident they lost the man in the terminal. He ran back on to the plane covered in blood shaking and saying that he had to get home over and over. I wonder if he did not have a concussion at this point. They then kicked everybody off the plane to get him off a second time and clean the blood out of the plane. This took over an hour.

All in all the incident took about two and a half hours. The united employees who were on the plane to bump the gentleman were two hostesses and two pilots of some sort.

This was very poorly handled by United and I will definitely never be flying with them again.

Edit 1:

I will not answer questions during the day as I have to go to work, this is becoming a little overwhelming

This is where UAL failed.
