Silly question, but are United and United Airlines owned by the same company?
They are the same company. United Airlines and Continental Airlines did merge though, making it worse for all of us.

China is UAL's second largest revenue exposure location. The Chinese version of Twitter is on fire, claiming that UAL chose him because he is Chinese.
Damage control may force them to pay this man and pay him quickly. The stock is rising though. The next few days may prove interesting.

Turns out, He's Vietnamese. But yeah, Weibo, but or whatever it's called, is mad as hell about it. That probably caused the stock drop this morning more than the American backlash. United is very big in China.

If there is video, which if it happened there will be, of him trying to run back on the plane that's going to look terrible. If there are reports of UA turning down passengers and sticking to their guns at $800 or $1000 that's going to be bad also.
The fact is most wouldn't have an issue with a voucher, but some people absolutely will have an issue of $800 or $1000 if they have a place to be. I mean what if you have your kids wedding or something? Absurd

It's on him. It's bull, the dude snuck back on the plane. If I were a passenger I'd want him dragged off as well. The doctor needs to recognize he isn't above the rules.

I'm still not understanding? why United would print a boarding pass if the flight was overbooked.
Posted on 4/11/17 at 11:54 am to southernelite
It wasn't overbooked, this was a bump for a flight crew to ride along for the next business day.
And from what people are saying, United may be fricked because they aren't supposed to be bumping paying customers for non-paying customers like employees.

What a happy coincidence that a United pilot called into Rush Limbaugh and got through.
Apparently nobody was trying to call today for the first time ever and this United pilot just happened to call in.
And since when are random employees supposed to represent their company to media?
Orchestrated public relations call by United. Rush is gobbling it up and was probably paid off somehow.

Because
1)They weren't counting on everyone showing up, and money. Why sell 100 tickets for a 100 seat plane when you can sell 110 tickets and reasonably expect 10 not to show. 10 extra fares is good money.
2)They suck at logistics. They needed to get 2 attendant and 2 pilots to Louisville for a flight going out of Louisville and didn't have any other option than to boot paying customers.

No, but sometimes they'll assign your seat at the gate. So why'd they assign him a seat? Surely they knew they needed the seats before everyone on the plane checked-in. They sure as hell should have known before boarding.

read somewhere that they didn't know until after. but who knows what the truth is now with all this shite out there on this story

Pilots and crew can't do that. They have required down time not from unions but from government regulations. Riding in a car probably doesn't qualify as down time so it would have affected flights the next day.

they can't bump them to a later flight the next day and have another crew take theirs. say their flight was at 7am. switch them with one that is slated to leave at 12pm.
something like that
