Yep. $1,000 is nothing short of unethical.
Interestingly enough, when I took Ethics at UL, the professor wrote the textbook and sold it spiral bound through the university press for $20, if I remember correctly.
Ethics textbook: $20
Business related class textbook: $1000
Hmmm.

Yeah I was behind on the times.

And yet people will come here and tell us about how they worked themselves through college without assistance, blah blah blah.

In 10 years college will be no better than what high school is now. The quality will be a joke unless you're at an Ivy League school.
At some point people are going to have to stop encouraging their children to go to college. It's the only way to stop this madness. You can't pay off $50k in debt working at Starbucks.

The salt in the wound is that there are no buy-backs at the end of the semester for e-books.
So these kids won't even get that $5 beer money for their used book.

The textbook I'm writing will be under $100.

Half the country believes in free shite, of which free college has become a Democratic platform. It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

I'm taking a couple classes online through Mcneese and for the most part the teachers don't give a shite and you have to buy a new book and online access code. It can be a few hundred bucks for one book. The teachers that give a shite have all the testing and coursework go through moodle and you can rent a book for 25 bucks.

Publishing costs probably aren't zero, but it's certainly much cheaper than a hard copy. It's why e-books are always relatively cheaper.
Surprisingly this isn't really the case

if i could start over i would have gone to trade school out of college. i basically fricked off at LSU for 4 years then dropped out and taught myself a trade and then when I was promoted to an office role I started putting myself through school. I'll be about 10 or 15k in debt when I'm done but at least I know i've got some sort of career to pay them with.

They know most of these kids are paying with student loans backed by the government.
This appears to be intro to managerial accounting class. A pretty basic class taken not only be entry-level accounting students, but other business majors may take this as well. Generally the second class you take in your accounting journey (after Intro to financial accounting), and this is generally a sophomore class.
My guess is many of these kids are on TOPS, so the school feels the kids can borrow the money to pay for the online textbook.
If the rationale is anything other than "we make a mistake and put $999 instead of $99", then there needs to be an investigation into this.

Business ethics text book: $1,020

I had a professor require me to buy a $250 book for his class, which I never used. I had to take the class, and he wouldn't let me schedule it without buying the book. It was an independent study CAD class, and the assignment were optional (except for the final). I scanned through it, the assignments were below my level, so I just turned in the final two weeks into the semester. The final was something he came up with, and wasn't in the book.
Now, I'm stuck with a $250 book that was only opened for two minutes

You didn't try to sell it back?

if the professor makes everyone buy his book, i doubt there is a market for used copies of it
