University of Louisville?

My most expensive book was $389 IIRC

"We're sorry that the price for the Acct 202 online text has caused so much strife & are working with the publisher to lower it to match the hard copy cost," the ULL account tweeted. "The $999 price was set w/ good intentions, though we realize now that we needed to explain the rationale behind it better."
The school's twitter account went on to say that Accounting 202 "requires students to have a hard copy of book pages in class to work with—so they would have to print large sections of the online copy. Our intention was to encourage students to get the hard copy so they would avoid having to print so much. We will do better next time."
So the online version wasn't required. But how much is the hard copy?

You didn't try to sell it back?
So, I had to pay full 3hr class price for an independent study class, and then buy a $250 book that I never used

Hard copy is $321. eBook version is "only" $133. I don't really understand the fuss about the WileyPlus version. It's not required.

It was probably "Highly Recommended"

That’s absolutely ridiculous

I still have my financial accounting and managerial accounting books.
The only thing I ever used them for after college was as a hard surface to line out coke on

The pompous academic thieves who pulled this shite should be sent to prison for malfeasance.

Google Most expensive text books and other than a couple professional references, they go for about $100-150.
ETA: That kid was a tard. The school offers the book for $234.
From the Advocate.

The student who posted the $999 cost associated with the book went directly through the publisher, said Cami Geisman, spokeswoman for the UL System. But the school offers the materials for the class for $234.75, which can be purchased through the UL book store.

The post in the picture says they made the online Wiley Plus code $999 to force students to buy the $300 text book.

I worked summers at the local Dairy Queen dammit for my $500 a semester education! The students should do the same instead of taking to their "fancy social media" and bitching!
I don't know if this is a Troll or you are serious but when did you graduate 1975?
My dad paid less than $100 a semester in 1969 at Ole War Skule but that was over 50 years ago buckaroo.

Interestingly enough, when I took Ethics at UL, the professor wrote the textbook and sold it spiral bound through the university press for $20, if I remember correctly. Ethics textbook: $20 Business related class textbook: $1000 Hmmm.

So I guess all the geniuses on here couldn't follow simple links to get to the whole story?

The materials – both a textbook and access codes for online supplementary materials – are available from the University’s bookstore for $313.
The University, the bookstore and the publisher worked to set the price for the materials, which students could use for Accounting 201 and 202, which are offered consecutively in the fall and spring semesters.
The publisher, after conversations with the Department of Accounting, set the online price at nearly $1,000 to discourage students from choosing to buy materials directly from its website. They believed it was best for the students to use a printed textbook since many of the materials in the book are needed for homework and classroom instruction.
Students who chose not to purchase the book and access codes from the University bookstore discovered the price difference. We are not aware of any students who purchased the materials online; if they did so, they should contact the College of Business Administration, which will work with them to rectify the situation.

What is the problem with a kid using a tablet or laptop? The digital copy should cost less to produce and has less waste.
Posted on 8/27/18 at 1:49 pm to Areddishfish
But they set it with good intentions.
Seriously, book for college courses are a racket.
There is nothing like going sell your books back and being told that one of your books, that cost over $100, will no longer be used so they are not buying it back..
Also, unless it was a paperback book, when I turned in my books, they were pretty much in just as good of shape as they were in when I bought it.. I always wondered if the bookstore repackaged the ones they bought back, that was in good condition and sold them as new.. again.
