LAFAYETTE - Some students at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette are upset about the price of an online textbook. The school is charging $1,000 for the online book and access code for an accounting class. Angry students vented their frustrations on social media, and the post has since gone viral across the state.

The school responded to the Tweet saying the price was set with "good intentions" but they needed to "explain the rationale."

They know most of these kids are paying with student loans backed by the government.

The students need to buck up and pay their tuition, books, room and board. I graduated with no loans! I worked summers at the local Dairy Queen dammit for my $500 a semester education! The students should do the same instead of taking to their "fancy social media" and bitching!

This is why I'm not in college. It's a money scheme for a degree most people don't even utilize.

I know college textbooks are expensive but GODDAMN.

For that much I could buy a full copy of Office and hire a CPA to personally tutor me on how to do the books using Excel.

Except accounting is used in every facet of a business. Try again.

Yep. $1,000 is nothing short of unethical. College books for me ranged $100-$200 (and I think even that's ridiculous).

Did they ever explain the rationale?

An enterprising accounting major would pay the $1,000, than screen shot the pages, print, and sell for $250 a pop to fellow students.

That’s how you do accounting.

Agreed. My $8/hr flipping burgers during the summer more than paid for my tuition, books, and housing.

You would have only had to work 125 hrs flipping burgers to buy this book.

I think you "I worked to pay my way through college so suck it up" people are missing the point here. Anybody would bitch (and rightfully so) about having to pay $1000 for a textbook.
