Agreed. My $8/hr flipping burgers during the summer more than paid for my tuition, books, and housing.
Seriously, I didn't spend over $1,000 total in tuition and books in my first two years at USL.

I think you "I worked to pay my way through college so suck it up" people are missing the point here. Anybody would bitch (and rightfully so) about having to pay $1000 for a textbook.
It's okay man. They're joking. We're all on the same page here.

what are the odds that the professor teaching the class also wrote the textbook......
Had a couple of those, but they didn't sell them for an outrageous price luckily. Also I was lucky int that my instructors and department head did their best to provide us with binders or manuals with the information we needed for free rather than make us buy expensive books. I am very grateful that I had professors who actually gave a shite. This was in engineering though.

There's no joking on the OT... this is a place for serious discussion. If you want jokes go to the Poli Board.

It looks like its $999 for WileyPlus instant access. They set it that high to discourage people from buying the book without affiliation to the class and then "selling" the material or answers.
Most classes/schools offer an access code that comes along with buying the physical book and/or enrolling in the class?

They know most of these kids are paying with student loans backed by the government.
This 1000 times over.

Yep, college textbooks are one of the biggest scams out there. Bet when the time comes, they won't even offer a buy back.on this book. Will claim the book has changed for the next semester.

It's a money scheme for a degree most people don't even utilize.
You think that "most" people who graduate don't use their degree?

The students need to buck up and pay their tuition, books, room and board. I graduated with no loans! I worked summers at the local Dairy Queen dammit for my $500 a semester education! The students should do the same instead of taking to their "fancy social media" and bitching!
Are you assistant to the assistant manager at DQ now?

The most disgusting part is that it's an online textbook, which only allows the student to access it for 6 months-1 year. And they can't resell it to another student. Basically a $1000 rental.

That is some high quality educations

The college bubble has to burst soon. No way a degree is worth this much money especially now that EVERYONE is getting one.

My books never cost more than $200 I think, and that was the most expensive one. I assume this comes with some online course / website access and is not just for a textbook.

they were trying to rip off students via payments being subsidized by student loans. they just had the breaking point too high
am i correct that since this is an "online" book, there aren't even publishing costs?

Publishing costs probably aren't zero, but it's certainly much cheaper than a hard copy. It's why e-books are always relatively cheaper.
