Has this been discussed?

quote:

Uber’s CEO Dara Khosrowshahi is calling out police violence and systemic racism in America as the company announces two new steps it is taking to support black restaurant owners in the food community through Uber Eats.

Now, when you open the app in a major city, you will see a prompt to "support black-owned restaurants." That will lead you to a list of restaurants you can order from through the app based on your location, according to Reuters. Additionally, a delivery fee won't be charged when you place an order to one of the restaurants through the end of 2020.

quote:

“I wish that the lives of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and countless others weren’t so violently cut short,” Khosrowshahi wrote in an email to customers. “I wish that institutional racism, and the police violence it gives rise to, didn’t cause their deaths.”

So they don't want equal treatment, they want special treatment. Got it.

How is that not illegal?

It is literally deciding whether someone has to pay for a service based on the color of their skin.

Doesn't the civil rights act have something in it about charging different prices based on race?

If it doesn't, it should.

I'd like an explanation for how this is not racist.

Eta: Lol at the downvotes.

If you look at it as these restaurants being employed by Uber to make them money, then yes they are discriminating against non black owners, which is illegal.

To be clear, it doesn’t compare the skin of the person being charged.

It’s the customers paying the delivery fee.

It’s the restaurant owner that is being screened for their blackness.
