Depends how old she is. I think a $5-6k ring is plenty if she’s just out of college. If she’s been in the work force a while, and is successful, doubling that should work. If she’s never going to have to work I hope you have an heirloom diamond to build a ring out of.

This is absurd. Mine was about one months salary and it’s exactly what I want. In fact, my husband told me the other day that the jeweler he got it from was offering a trade in deal and told me I could go look and get something different if I wanted. I declined. So in my opinion, the amount has nothing to do with it, and beware of any female that says otherwise.

If you get a nice diamond in a Pt setting, from a designer, that’s not even 1 ct. you could buy a big cloudy diamond at that price too. It should be enough...forever.
