I mean let’s say on average most people right out of college make around $50k/ year. That’s a little over $4k/ month. Ain’t no one making $50k should be spending $12,000 on a damn engagement ring.
You’re setting yourself up for completely unrealistic expectations from your spouse. And if you’re worried about her saying no to anything less than a five figure ring, then you probably shouldn’t be marrying her.

I spent about 5 months salary at the time, 17 years ago.
