She likes small rings anyways.

I'm a gentleman, I expect to spend more than 500 bucks on her ring.

Have you ever tried to sell a diamond?
I bought my wife's ring off of eBay, used, and I give not two shits about being a cheapskate because she got a ring that appraised for $8k that only cost me $2500. She's got the bling her friends are jealous of (which, really, is all they care about) and I keep my status as a thrifty arse mofo.
Dude's fiancee broke it off and I scooped in like a vulture and took advantage.

Ah yes the old “I paid X and it appraised for Y” response.

It was used, dude. It's not like a bought a new ring and am here claiming I got a steal. Appraiser said retail would be $8k on the ring, said non-retail would be a bit higher than I paid. In other words, I got a steal on a beautiful, practically new ring.

bunch of dudes with no standards. Trying to pull a fast one on their wives
Look it up. A lab grown diamond is a real diamond in every way. Nothing fake or pulling a fast one about it.
Diamonds are no longer rare. They are a scam.
quote:
The only thing that makes a lab-created diamond different from a natural is diamond is its origin. A lab-created diamond is “grown” inside a lab using cutting-edge technology that replicates the natural diamond growing process. The result is a diamond that is chemically, physically, and optically the same as those grown beneath the Earth’s surface.
“[Lab-created diamonds] are not fakes. They’re not cubic zirconias. They have all the same physical and chemical properties of a mined diamond.” Stephen Morisseau, a spokesman for the Gemological Institute of America, a nonprofit organization that oversees the international diamond grading system.

Diamonds are only worth money if people died over them

But you couldn't sell it for 1/4 of what you paid for it.

It's a fricking rip off. It's pretty; but it's a rip off

one of the biggest paradoxes in the US currently is how the "shop and save" female population, who will go absolute ape shite for a $1 coupon, still demands insanely expensive (but close to worthless) engagement rings

Yep. It might appraise for a decent amount but the true value of it is what someone else is willing to pay for it, and it's nowhere near the appraisal amount.
