Thoughts On Open Marriages?
About as legit as 'same sex marriage'

If you'd be okay with watching an LSU game with your buddies knowing that you're the only one in the room who hasn't railed your wife in the past month, go for it

These are becoming more popular and offer the chance of making marriage more realistically sustainable.
I don't get the appeal, but to each their own.

Have been married to my wife for 8,765 days as of today. Will be 24 years on Sunday, Nov 1st. Couldn't even imagine the hurt something like this post suggests would cause. Completely and utterly satisfied .. and want it to stay that way. Maybe I just got lucky, because she could have had anyone, but chose me.

You are one of the blessed ones.

OP, save your girl some future heartache and don't get married. If you're already wanting to frick around then you have no business getting married.

But why not?
Why can't I have my cake and eat a little more cake on the side, especially if my wife is aware and ok with it?
I haven't seen any legit reason against such an arrangement yet other than responses along the lines of well that's not how it's always been done or some personal insecurities that some posters have projected that are unique to them.
And no one has offered a real suggestion as to how to approach the subject.

Jealousy, and if you don't think it will become an issue from at least one of you then you are delusional.

Depends on your definition of "failed" I suppose. One ended in divorce, the other died. I'd say the two average out to about a C+ maybe even a B-.

I would imagine wanting your spouse to not frick other people isn't that much of a unique thing.

It's a good way to get pregnant.

Men usually go into these thinking "awesome, I'll get to have tons of strange and I don't care if my wife gets a guy now and then" and it usually ends up the guy gets pissed when he comes home empty handed 90% of the time and the wife gets dicked down whenever she wants to.

I am also considering the idea that only women be involved in an arrangement.
This is the arrangement I have with my wife, but for gawd's sake don't tell her.

Men throughout history have had mistresses. Gandhi had one. I have one. Isn't that what an open marriage is?

If you want to approach it, then approach it head on. If you are that comfortable with the subject and it's something that you want your spouse to consider, then you need to be ok with just being up front with it.

What someone else does in their marriage does not concern me. I don't want this kind of relationship. You should not need any legit reason from other people either for or against if this is what you want in your marriage.

I have a friend who was into this for a while. Her now ex husband talked her into it and it went on for quite a while, but eventually he couldn't handle it. She says it was all just fun and fantasy for her, but he eventually became paranoid that she was fricking the guys on the side that they would bring in to join them. Never mind the fact that according to her he would bail out quick and go to bed and leave her to frick a guy or two that they invited over. She did say that she told him multiple times they could stop living that lifestyle if it meant saving their marriage, but he didn't want too. I don't get it personally other than I imagine it can be quite an addictive lifestyle.
