I tried to return to Louisiana to practice my profession. It was our long-held desire and dream. The job offer I had in BR was a good one for the state but we quickly realized I could have done better elsewhere. We both had our families in Louisiana but it didn't take long to grow tired of BR's crime, congestion, traffic, and overcrowding. I was recruited for a much better job opportunity in an area with a far, far superior quality of life to anything available in Louisiana. It makes us sad to say it but as I wrote in another thread there is no place in Louisiana that we would leave here for. I live on 150 acres, 15 minutes from work. We have no plans to return to Louisiana.

I underestimated how much this would mean to me after I left. I’m on the other side of NC in Bryson City, and for most people living here is not feasible.

I hate the default to Houston for Louisiana people. Consider Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee.

Cost of living was getting too high
Catholic school tuition
Crime on the rise
Was looking to slow it down and provide a better place for my kids to grow up
Moved from Houma to southern MS.
Cleaner, less crime, less traffic, better public schools and lower cost of living. Happier and haven’t looked back

Left Louisiana to go to grad school out of state.
Then moved to NM for a job because they paid better than the south. Actually liked it. If not for a really good position opening, would have stayed and moved to Arizona.
ETA: I also realized it would be hard to raise children 1200 miles from family

Grew up in Florida but married a girl from New Orleans. We lived in Metairie for a few years but left for Louisville, KY. Work and money were the main factors. Louisville is a good town. Has its own problems but we are happy here. It is snowing right now which is a non event up here. Most of my life, a snow flake was a big deal.

In the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s I loved living in California. The schools were great for my kids, state had a lot of outdoor recreational opportunities, and my quality of life was great.
I moved back to Louisiana after my kids were grown to take care of my parents. Now that they are gone I moved to Texas.

1990, career opportunity and education of three children (elementary aged at the time). Grew up in NOLA area and no appeal to live in a city of its size/type. Live in Wichita Falls, Texas...it is home with easy access to DFW or OKC.

Graduated from LSU. About 6 months later said screw it and packed my car and moved to Vegas with no job and just clothes. Been here just about 15 years now.
Next stop will probably be either Wyoming, Utah or Idaho as I can work from anywhere now. But I like Vegas.

Left at 17 for college. I thought everywhere would be like Louisiana. It is not. I miss NOLA and LA, but Hoover, AL is a nice place to raise a family. We go back to visit every chance we get. Not sure if I’ll ever live there again, though.

Once you leave La, you realize how great life can be. I left in 2004, never looked back. The only thing I miss is the tasty food. My tax dollars go so much further elsewhere.

Are you from a small town by chance? That seems like a common attitude for people from small towns.

Finances and quality of life. I left Louisiana in July, after a few years of debating it. I came to the Lake Jackson area and have not regretted a single thing except not doing it years ago. My income and every facet of quality of life have dramatically improved, and I’m still close enough to easily go back for visits. Do it. Get out sooner rather than later.
