I'm not gonna pretend that I've ever really gotten Basquiat but my getting it doesn't determine it's value. Also, please save the "my kid" or "my grandkids" could paint that take because if it's true you need to stop and pick up a canvas and some paints.

That painting is only worth what the NEXT guy's willing to pay for it. Hopefully, the guy dropping 9 figures on it can find someone else to do the same thing, just a little bit bigger.

Such is the way of a market for a one-off piece.

silly, no doubt, but the art world is pretty fascinating. I watched a documentary the other day on art collections, and ended up doing a few hours of reading on art pieces and where/how they derive their value.

I still think it’s retarded. But I appreciate it.

What's the name of the doc?

It may look like garbage but it’s worth paying $110 million if you know you can sell it for double that in 10 years.

I like a lot of his art but his elavafion on the art market is ridiculous.. His art is being inflated by his story and limited quantity.

For all the progress we’ve made in the last 400 years, why has art gone to shite?

The art is wherever, but I love the film "Basquiat" with Jeffrey Wright.

Would the film have been better with Steven Wright?

People with that kind of money want way more than 7.18% interest return on an investment. He obviously bought it for the beauty.

Or they want to hide their money and not pay taxes on it.

He gets to show it off for 10 years (that is why people buy art) and then sell it at 7%/yr is a win.

I think that drawing is fricking awesome, and not because it sold for $110M. The dude was pretty talented at abstract.

My kid could paint better than that except he’s heterosexual and enjoys man hobbies like welding

Basquiat used to wear expensive Armani suits while he painted these? That’s pretty boss.
