I’ve had many people tell me that when it comes to calculating in their minds how long ago something was, 2000 is the year they subtract from

IMO it's because the 00's and 10's don't really feel like distinct decades.

Yes. Hard to believe the Metallica album "and justice for all" is now over 30 years old. 30 years before that, Elvis was just getting popular.

I just realized I really need to get my shite together.
I basically live like I'm 20.

One thing I find funny is in Lafayette 99.9 KTDY slogan is 80’s 90’s and today. It’s like today is representing 2 decades. They just skip over the 00’s and soon to be the 10’s. Hopefully the roaring 20’s can establish its own identity and be remembered distinctively.

Downvoted for not re-sizing this image. Also are you the new DtG? This is the kind of threads he starts.

That's because they sucked. Everything since 2000 sucked!

calculating the dazed and confused time gaps makes people realize this quickly
15 years separated the time the movie was set and when the movie was released
25 years separate today from the release of the film

It's moments like these when you really get a big reminder of your mortality and how fleeting it is.
Time is such an incredible monster and you're only this Earth for a very and extremely limited fraction of it.
Pretty insane to think after you die, Earth and humanity and the place you live in will still go on for thousands if not millions and millions of years.
We're just a blink of an eye.

I don't know about most people but I judge time by major events. So most things are post Katrina or pre-Katrina. But that time stamp is fading away.

This is interesting. For some reason I do it from 2010.

In fairness, I haven’t lived in Lafayette for over 15 years, and I remember their having that catchphrase. Sounds like they just haven’t come up with anything new since then

What sort of moron would subtract from 2000 instead of the current year?

Someone who is cool with getting the age of something correct +/- 19 years.

This. As someone who lived through the 70s, 80s, amd 90s, I remember each decade having its own feel and style that was very distinct from the one before. But, at least from my perspective, the 00s and 10s have no discernible difference from one another.
