The dinosaurs loved it years ago. Be thankful they did.

Can confirm. Used to drive from BR to Albuquerque. Hwy 281 from Fort Worth to Amarillo and I-40 to New Mexico is a 8+ hour stretch of absolutely nothing. God-awful section of the country.

Buddy of mine used to live/work there and he enjoyed it for the most part, save for the -40 wind chill.

If were talking depressing, then all the small, rural, poor towns in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama are worse than anything in the Midwest or Great Plains.
Unlike those small poor rural towns in Texas?

Hwy 287 but I agree that's a tough stretch of road.

There are some redeeming qualities in West Texas like:
Palo Duro Canyon
Big Bend National Park

I was thinking the same thing. Those places are gorgeous to me. Maybe because of the stark contrast with Louisiana

Guess you’ve never heard of Palo Duro Canyon or the Llano Estacado

Rock Springs all the way to Rawlins on I-80. Wamsutter is the highlight of that drive.

Southern border of Illinois going north all the way to Chicago is like Louisiana I-49 but like 5 hrs longer.

The thread is about topography of an area
The towns may feel depressed but at least there are trees and green grass.

Really, unless you are in the marsh or the gulf South Louisiana is a disgustingly ugly shithole. Unless you are around the river in the plantation home areas the topography has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Ever been on the desert around Barstow or California City?

Some of the places that y’all consider ugly are questionable. Everyone has their own view on what they think is ugly or pretty I guess.

Are you including that landmass between Texas and Kansas?

Kansas.
Took me about a week to drive through Kansas one Monday.
Kansas is a long, dark highway, filled with endless toll booths and no exits.
