Rock Springs, Wyoming. The ugliest place in the U.S. just south of the most beautiful place in the U.S.

Are we just talking landscape? As in boring?
I-10 from East all the Way to the West is largely very boring. Flat and either open fields or pine forests.

Having watched Fargo recently, there are some pretty ugly, open and desolate locations filmed. I believe these were filmed in upstate Minnesota.

Wrong, the high plains has some scenic areas.

Western Ohio/Indiana/Southeastern Michigan is pretty bad, especially on a grey, snowless winter day

Do not frick around in west Texas when it comes to gas. When you're at a 1/4 of a tank you'd better be looking to fill up.

W Texas may be ugly on top, but anyone would want mineral rights to what is under that ugly land.

Anywhere in the eastern Us where you see pine trees on each side of the road.

Once you get west of Dallas the world opens up.

The OP’s highlighted area is the best tornado chasing. Great stuff.

I second that about SE Michigan especially when compared to how the northern part of the state looks.

I've driven through the Texas panhandle a few times. Raton Pass to the Texas line isn't too bad. There are mesas and old dormant volcanoes to look at. The area around Dalhart & Dumas are pretty boring but the northern approach to Amarillo has some rugged beauty. But from Amarillo to Wichita Falls is brutal. Best to do that stretch at night if you can.

The fringes of your circle do have some awesome places. But yea agree with most of that.

But right in the middle between Amarillo and Lubbock and a little east is this gem
