I'm going with the area about 100 miles East of El Paso....the slab of West Texas that runs northward into SE Colorado/West Kansas.

No redeeming qualities and most of it smells like cow dung.

What a shite thread. And that's not a topographical map.

Much of West Texas has very nice scenery

Western Oklahoma and the panhandle through southwest Nebraska and including all but the eastern most part of Kansas is fricking brutal though.

It may be kind of boring but I wouldn’t call it ugly.

Especially if you drive through after a snowstorm.

There's some cool stuff in the area you marked out. Capulin volcano, Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Carlsbad Caverns.

I'd have to go with East Texas between Houston and Beaumont.

Or South Dakota along I-90 between the Black Hills and Sioux Falls.

It's one of my favorite parts of the country

I love the openness, the wildlife, the feel of looking out and it looks like it's never ending

On my travels across the vast US southern Wyoming was the worst, like the moon. Strange since the north is so beautiful.

If were talking depressing, then all the small, rural, poor towns in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama are worse than anything in the Midwest or Great Plains.

There’s places in Mississippi that I’ve driven through that legitimately look like third world countries. Apart from the urban centers, the Deep South is by far America’s most depressing region.
