Really, unless you are in the marsh or the gulf South Louisiana is a disgustingly ugly shithole.
I disagree. The NW corner is kinda scenic. Caddo lake, Bistineau...

Yea but the NW corner is not in South LA. Maybe I should have thrown a comma in there somewhere lol

Having made this drive more times than I'd like, I10 corridor between Jacksonville and Pensacola. No redeeming qualities and Tallahassee is the best thing about it. Just pine trees.

Yeah, it's pretty plain, but damn I love the fact that there's no traffic.

Yeah, but I'm not a fan of flat, dirty terrain

You stupid frick. The Palo Duro Canyon is in your arbitrary and stupid area.
My first thought upon seeing the circle. At least he knew to leave out Big Bend.
In fairness to OP, there is a lot of flat nothingness in that circle for sure.

Ever been on the desert around Barstow or California City?
I have and Wamsutter was worse. The wind never stops blowing there. Dust in the warm months and snow in the cold.

Come on. Every place has something to offer.
Except maybe Cleveland and Detroit.

Southern border of Illinois going north all the way to Chicago is like Louisiana I-49 but like 5 hrs longer.
Southern Illinois (Metropolis to around Marion) actually isn’t bad. Central Illinois is pretty drab in the winter though.

I spend a lot of time around the bottom of the circle in TX. I don't find it ugly at all, but you have to get off the interstate to see it.

I hate the corn fields of the mid west.

I guess it depends on your definition of ugly.
The circled area in your map covers most of the Llano Estacado, aka Staked Plains. There is a lot of history in that area, once home to millions of buffalo and Natives, then millions of cattle and ranchers, now millions of acres of pivots and pumpjacks.
some pics of the llano
The region has lots of flat, dry land but is bookended with the Guadalupe Mountains and Sacramento mountains on the west, Big Bend on the south, and Palo Duro Canyon on the northeast.
I used to think this area was pretty ugly, same as southern NM & AZ, and most of NV.
As I have learned more about the history, spent hundreds if not thousands of hours traversing on foot, and met the people in these different regions I have grown an appreciation for them. Every canyon, creek, rock formation, and piece of wide open plain has a story behind it.
I can see how at first pass though they are easy to dismiss.

Wamsutter and Rock Springs.... we have some oil and gas baws in this thread. I haven’t had the joy of going to these areas, but looks like I’ll be traveling to all the oil patches in the next years.
The drive from LA to Phoenix is pretty bad. Once you pass Palm Springs it’s just a scene straight out of a roadrunner cartoon for 4 hours.

I don't know about ugliest, but has to be one of the most boring areas to ride through...

I think the two most depressing places I've ever been are Barstow, CA and Dumas, TX. Both the landscapes and the towns themselves just suck the life out of you.
