In my first psych class the professor stressed that there's "no such thing as 'insane' because the thoughts and actions of the person in the moment seem sane to them." That's a "why do they do this" answer.

The problem comes from those who take that stance as a foundation to excuse poor behavior by lessening or removing consequences. The internet has poured fuel on that with its ability to broadcast "social contagion" to an almost instant global level.

What do genetics have to do with psychology? Genetics have more to do with biology.

We’ve had insane asylums for a long time.
Mental health has always been an issue.
Access to it should be a priority, as well as recognizing when someone cannot be accountable and needs to be committed.

Big scam going. Give them drugs and talk to a therapist that has their own “mental health issues”.
Spiritual void causes 95% of mental illlness
Medical and pharmaceutical industries conning the public again.

Culture seeped into culture? Your analysis is fine but the diagnosis is tautological.

Culture is a symptom, not a cause. The crisis of meaning is downstream from disillusionment with the enlightenment project of all-powerful reason; a product of industrialism, which resulted in the contradiction between the liberal revolutionary values of the 18th century and labor relations, and the world wars which were the ugly fruits of our technological innovations. Communism and fascism are in their own ways catastrophic attempts to deal with this failure of reason.

There is also a lot of flattening together of psychoanalysis, psychology, psychiatry, and neuroscience in this thread but I can’t get into all that on game day

Jung and Freud just gave names to the conditions. They didn't protect anybody.
