IIRC, a lot of the St George organizers tried to get reform in the EBR Parish School System and were told, between the lines, “go build your own school system. This one is ours.”
OK, it’s theirs, but the money for the kids living in St George will go to the new school system when it is built.

How would this be "screwing them out of an education"? Those kids mostly go to BR schools now and will with St George too

That's not gerrymandering, but I agree with their conclusion.

And the kids in your fancy mega-schools don't seem to be too happy, either... you know, based on all the shootings, incels, etc.
It’s every parents obligation to make sure their child is educated. That’s exactly what is going on here.
Good parents aren’t going to tolerate sucky, undisciplined schools. They will do whatever it takes to go that no matter how much money they make or what color skin they have.

And every time they do it, some a-hole screams “white flight” without noticing the number of black and other minority families looking for the same exits.

Maybe someone should ask the author why City of BR avoided annexing Gardere and other "black" areas when they were grabbing up the Casino, Mall of Louisiana and the hospitals.

Pure trash.

Turning St. George into a city to create its own school district will do more than racially divide the residents of East Baton Rouge Parish. This sinister and outdated tactic, known as gerrymandering, will detrimentally affect the future of students currently pursuing a K-12 education.
It is called neighborhood schools. Maybe BR should try it?
Works out well in Texas. Instead of all the public schools being complete shite in areas like Houston, Dallas, Austin, ect. they actual have some very good public schools and don't bring them down by busing people all over the city.

Evans' two siblings currently attend Baton Rouge Magnet High School and will possibly not be able to attend next school year if the law passes. They will have to attend St. Joseph's Academy, an all-girls private school in the St. George area.
These schools are about 1/2 mile from each other...

NE of Highland road park. And the author can't vote on it anyway. She lives off of Walker south.

And you can quit your pandering because even if St. George didn't happen, those same high schools are still going to be terrible. Also anyone is more than welcome to move to St. George. There is no law that keeps minorities from moving or living there.

Yep and her voting location is South Fork Elementary in Denham.

Maybe some of northern residents of Baton Rouge should contribute to things other than crime statistics.

So is it stated that all children living in the proposed city of St. George will have to attend a school within St. George next school year -- before any of the school district stuff is sorted out?
I mean, I see where that could be the case -- but I guess it was never made clear in any of the discussions I've followed.

The school district will have to go to a statewide vote

Were there actual requests to be annexed?
