isn't the school district off the table...

It is until a constitutional amendment happens at the state level.
Organizers had been told that having a city would make it easier to happen. One of the people who said that was SWB, I believe.

It was a lot easier for the 2nd CD to exist when NOLA was bigger and blacker.

Add in the fact that the person she interviewed is of the privileged few who got into the magnet program bitching about how her siblings would have to go to private school

The irrational argument against St George is so short sighted
People have been moving to The AP and Livingston for 25 years. Planting a solid school system in the middle of the metro area will reduce that flight. People will star here and pay property and sales taxes here. Spend less time traveling back and forth to work. Not have to pay for private school so they will have more money for discretionary spending. Businesses will be able to recruit high caliber employees as the cost of raising a family will be competitive with Texas
It is a plus for EBR but nobody seems to want to talk about it

That will change after 2020.

I wish I could vote for this. I wish this would have been proposed during the 25 years I lived in the future ST. George. Damm I hope this passes for the future of my son and his family. Just think of the money I could have saved if I didn’t have to pay for his schooling because EBR schools suck

I guess someone from the Reveille reads the OT.
quote:Completely changed the cover picture to the standard St. George boundary.
The Reveille has updated the cover photo of St. George due to the mistaken boundaries. St. George Town is north of campus off of Acadian Thruway on Broussard Street.

Spring Hill’s book cost for tuition may be that high but the amount they are getting is likely far lower.
IIRC, they have enrollment problems and are facing a loss of accreditation, so they are likely cutting deals in order to put butts in seats.

And that is happening for a few reasons, including people not happy that about 100K people are about to be outside of their control and takers pissed that all the money generated by those people is leaving.

The point still stands that she wrote an article with underlying tones of pointing out racism and privilege while interviewing someone who was privileged enough to attend a private college.
Even with Spring Hill's issues, their overall cost is still greater than any public college in the State of Louisiana.

Preach, man. This can't be said enough. This will long term be so much better for the city overall. If anything, this hurts the outskirt parishes in the long run.

That's not gerrymandering, but I agree with their conclusion.
You can take all the money and hide in the nicer suburbs, but the kids you're screwing out of an education (kids who didn't get to choose their parents or their skin color) will be waiting right outside your flimsy little gate-arms.
And the kids in your fancy mega-schools don't seem to be too happy, either... you know, based on all the shootings, incels, etc.
