$30k for a ring is wild.

Mine is a little over 2 carats, lab created diamond on a platinum band for around $3k. I get compliments on it all of the time. My wedding band will be a fraction of that.

If your fiancé is only happy with that expensive of a ring, you should not marry her. I just spent $5k for a very nice ring.

Yup. My wife and I were poor when we got engaged. I spent $600 on a ring and she's still happy with it.

Safety of your bride in your top 10 things to worry about?

Streak of responses about insuring the ring.

Safety

Not of the ring. Of your wife. Assume she would not carry $30k in her wallet. Yet wears a ring of that value OR to look like that value.

No worries about her safety. Got it.

Yikes.

I’m 32 years into marriage. Sometimes happily even…

Can tell you with 100% certainty that if rewound time, that money goes into a home and S&P 500.

If $ to the rock, I would be worried about someone hurting my wife for the rock - real or not, pretty sure the attention to details of the depraved is dull.

Sounds nice.

Do you ever worry you will be target of theft while it’s on your finger?

Guessing thieves dont appraise well.

Lab created and don't look back

If I knew my wife didn’t care I would’ve gone this route. You can get twice the diamond for the same price

Honestly. No. It’s my understanding if someone approached me to steal something off me it’s going to be more likely my purse or phone. Something that’s easy to grab and run.

I’m a little more worried about the guy that’s been reported at one of the parks I jog at trying to sexually assault women.

Be safe.

May that guys eyes get gouged out. Sorry, watching reruns of Game of Thrones. Seems fitting.

Same. Married at the JOP. Cheap wedding rings in the double digits. Married over 25 years now, we've since upgraded rings but choose to wear our originals anyway because we like the story they tell.

Of course!

But not because she dangles a big azz ring on her finger.

She was cut from same cloth as me. That would-be ring is in our home equity.

You should have solace knowing that most people in public will assume that a 30k ring is either fake or at a minimum lab grown.

Same goes for people walking around with gold watches. I have a cousin who basically refuses to wear his Rolex Day-Date in public because he’s concerned that he’ll get robbed (he lives in DC). But I’ve told him that most people will probably just assume it’s fake.

A "real" diamond that size would've been double the price

I don’t know how to break it to you but a “real” 4 ct diamond is worth much more than 14k

ETA: there’s a line where you cross into something being unbelievable, and unless you have massive family wealth, or you’re some sort of ultra OT Baller a 4ct diamond crosses into that territory. A 2 or 2.5 ct diamond, if you are well off is believable. 4 ct? People are going to start to doubt.
