Let’s start with to each their own.

Grew up on lower range of economic continuum and some things never leave you.

Like when I hear someone paid $30k or more for a ring, my head spins. And I know sky is the limit for some.

The trade offs of things that could have bought (eg, downpayment on a home) is not why I made this post.

Safety for the bride / bride-to-be is why I made the post. If thugs steal tricycles from children with Down’s Syndrome, do you Romeo’s with deep pockets ever worry that your lady will be targeted for her rich ATM of a finger?

Has to make you at least a little worried, no?

My wife wanted a lab grown because it was massive. I still paid a pretty penny for it but it dwarfs all of her friends diamonds.

Happy wife happy life.

If your fiancé is only happy with that expensive of a ring, you should not marry her. I just spent $5k for a very nice ring.

That’s what insurance is for.

But my wife has stopped wearing her real ring when we go out at night or travel and wears a cheap ring from Amazon.

That same $30K ring the next day at a pawn shop is worth about $6K.

There is no bigger rip off than buying diamonds from a jewelry store.

mine only wears rings for special occasions so no, we don't worry about that.

$5k on a 2-2.5ct lab grown is plenty enough to have that wow factor and make her feel good about it.

Exactly. I paid around $7k for my wife's nearly perfect 4 carat lab ring. A "real" diamond that size would've been double the price and would've had flaws.

When we go out for dinner or parties, she's constantly getting compliments. Her friends with mined diamonds do not get compliments often.

Lab grown is a fraction of the price and is becoming much more popular and accepted. The diamond industry has been totally upended by lab grown and as of today, over 50% of engagement rings are man made. You can get a visually perfect lab grown 3 carat diamond in a nice setting for $5k whereas a naturally mined diamond in the same setting would be upwards of $25k. Makes no sense to purchase mined diamonds these days

Probably get more for the tricycle than the ring trying to resell them

Lab Grown is the way to go.

My lady has a 2.5 lab grown on her finger. I get constant compliments from her friends & family about how I “did good”, she still loves it 2 years later, and it didn’t cost me an arm & leg to do it.
