I have two solar panels with two old trolling motor batteries to power dock lights and some 12v chargers that are nice to have on the dock. It was the cheapest option to me, mainly because I already had some batteries, but I wouldn't want to depend on solar for all my power.

If you can afford it, it is a good thing.
People really do travel A LOT more than they used to.
I remember one or two trips (if we were lucky) as a kid.
So far, my wife wants to go on 5 or 6 this year. We had to have a talk about the trip she wanted to take for my birthday.
Just over the top, IMO.
