The level of people who hate wearing suits is proportional with the obesity level.

What about a nice, dress jacket but without a tie. Is that acceptable?

I'm betting in the "old days" most people just didn't think twice about it.

When my father passed away earlier this year, there were lots of suits. He was a former CEO of a large company. However, he was beloved by a lot of people from a lot of different walks of life. He touched so many lives. There were also folks who came straight from work where they don't wear suits and folks who simply don't own them. We didn't care what anyone wore. We cared that those folks cared enough to take time to come express their sentiments and wait in a long line to do so. It meant so much to us.

Count me apart of this trend. I wear suits for job interviews and that's practically it.

For funerals or weddings I'll wear khakis and a nice button-down shirt.

I'm a casual person so I don't see a problem with it. Of course if I were attending a wedding/funeral and suits were requested then I would oblige no questions asked.

Sorry, I no longer own a suit. Not paying ~$500 for something I'll wear maybe once or twice a year.

I'll stick to a sport coat.

The number of men in jeans for my father's funeral really upset me. I was appreciative of the strong turnout, but the casual dress felt disrespectful.

I completely understand those who can’t afford it. For those that can, stop being fat, lazy, and and/or insecure.

Should be expected, no need to request a suit for either of those

Are we talking full suit or we talking sports coat.

I think you can get away with either at either event.

I do think a suit is usually more appropriate for a funeral. Sports coat is fine at a wedding.

I own 2 suits but I don't even wear them once per year. I think the last time I've had one on was 3 years ago at a funeral.

I don't want anyone at my funeral to wear a suit. Guess I should go ahead and let the 4 or 5 people who might show at mine of my wishes.

I hate having to dress up for stuff. A tie is the most impractical garment ever invented. It literally serves no purpose. I've also never understood why men would put on a suit jacket in the summer in the South. It's stupid.

Suits are expensive and a lot of guys who don't need them for work have one for weddings and funerals, and then get too fat for it and don't have the money or time to go buy a new one. It's sad. It's pathetic. But it's life.
The sad and pathetic part is not that peoples bodies change over time.

The sad and pathetic part is the outrageous cost of a limited usefulness outfit of clothing.

It makes zero sense for people to spend a lot of money for something they will wear one time. And it especially makes zero sense to buy a suit to get buried in. It ain't like you'll know whether the suit was used or not for the funeral since you'll not be attending except in body only.

That one time Caribbean Vacay of sea diving...you gonna buy a full set of scuba gear for it? And the boat to arrive on location too? Oh gee, sad and pathetic.

I wear a suit to weddings, court and some funerals.

The funeral suit just depends on what I have going on that day. The last funeral I attended was in slacks and a button up but no jacket or tie and I was probably one of the most well dressed there.
