A Texas man says he makes $250,000 a month re-selling Buc-ee's snacks online.

quote:

“I was like, ‘Wait, what? Buc-ee’s doesn’t have an online store?’ It was like a lightbulb. There’s a huge opportunity here," Chris Koerner told The Hustle. Koerner just so happened to run an e-retail company so he set to work setting up a site to sell Buc-ee's unique variety of jerky, Beaver nugget snacks and more.

He says he spent nearly $1,500 buying one of every snack, hired a photographer to take pictures of them, set up an e-commerce shop and started counting his money as the orders poured in.

So, how did Buc-ee's feel about him profiting from their products? It's no surprise to learn a company lawyer immediately sent him a cease and desist letter.

But it wasn't for what you may expect. They just wanted him to change the name of his e-commerce 'Beaversnax' site to something without the word beaver in it and to make it clear his site was not affiliated with Buc-ee's.

quote:

Texassnax.com was born -- and keeps booming, Koerner said. Items are marked up 50-132% from the original Buc-ee's price, The Hustle found, and no one seems to be complaining.

Am honestly floored that bucees didnt' make him stop. Why wouldn't they send a C&D then just start their own online store?

I’m sure he can resell that name to a porn site.

Because they can’t.

Same principle as buying a pair of shoes then reselling them. Nike can’t tell you to not sell your own property.

Sad how fat texas people are

They can’t fit behind the wheel to get to the gas station. Thank God I was able to find a job in Louisiana

They probably will, or maybe add delivery from their B&M sites.

The C&D was probably done more to protect their brand than move merchandise.

Buc-ee's probably makes 250k a day at one of its locations. Insane.

Their leadership isn’t a pile of AHoles from what I can tell.

Not saying suing for NiL is aholish behavior but I think they don’t take themselves too seriously.

I say this as a person that hates Buccees.

You see this all the time on ebay and amazon. People buying stuff from one place, marking it up 50% and selling it in another.

I live a mile away from the one on I35 in Temple.
Never really go in there (probably 5 times in the 10ish years it’s been open) but I had a Tesla as a rental and went there to charge for about 20 minute and I’d guess 250k is the low end. I got a breakfast taco and a family in front of me dropped $400 on random crap.

I’m so grateful my entry ramp northbound gets me on before that hellscape of a parking lot/entrance.

What would the grounds for that be? They don't claim to be Bucees. This is not really any different than being a shopping service except that it is effectively an online shopper.

The site has a disclaimer on the main page and a separate page that qualifies that they are not affiliated with Bucees or HEB. Everything they purchase from Bucees is purchased at the retail price so it is a win-win for Bucees. If they do start an Online store then that will mean this guy will not be able to compete and his business will decline or disappear.

Why would they? They are still selling their product to this guy at retail price. This guy set up an online store for them and Buccee doesn’t have to do shite.

How do you make him stop? You may as well stop Ebay.
He is legitimately buying Bucees products then reselling them. Nothing wrong with that.

1. Buccees doesn’t need the money. It’s not part of the business model.
2. The free publicity is probably worth more anyways.

I think part of the Buccees brand allure is the exclusivity. If you can just order all their shite online, there's no need to stop at Buccees vs some other run of the mill gas station. Maintain the exclusivity and the excitement of stopping at a Buccees, they can invite more impulse spending in store.
