Two people have died and at least 58 people have been diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease in a cluster that broke out in the Harlem area of New York City last week, officials said on Monday.

The New York City Health Department had reported on Thursday that one person had died and 22 people were sick in the cluster.

“People living or working in the area with flu-like symptoms, such as cough, fever, chills, muscle aches, or difficulty breathing should contact a health care provider immediately,” the department said in a statement on Monday. “It is especially important for people at higher risk -- including those ages 50 and older, cigarette smokers, and people with chronic lung disease or compromised immune systems -- to get care if they have symptoms.”

Legionnaires’ disease is a type of pneumonia that is caused by the bacteria Legionella, which grows in warm water, health officials said, and people can get Legionnaires’ disease by breathing in water vapor that contains Legionella bacteria.

The New York City Health Department has been investigating the cluster and said that "the remediation required by the Department has been completed for the 11 cooling towers with initial positive screening results showing the presence of Legionella pneumophila, a type of bacteria that causes Legionnaires’ disease."

Legionnaires’ disease can be caused by plumbing systems where conditions are favorable for Legionella growth, such as cooling towers, whirlpool spas, hot tubs, humidifiers, hot water tanks and evaporative condensers of large air-conditioning systems, health officials said.

People can get Legionnaires’ disease by breathing in water vapor that contains Legionella bacteria, though officials reminded people that the disease cannot be transmitted from person to person and can be treated with antibiotics.

An indie rock band with more than a million monthly listeners on Spotify has owned up to being an AI-generated music project following days of speculation about whether the group was real.

Named Velvet Sundown – seemingly a nod to Lou Reed's band The Velvet Underground – the digital group has become a viral hit, generating ferocious online discussion after racking up hundreds of thousands of listens.

An updated Spotify profile, consulted on Tuesday by AFP, admitted that the group was an "ongoing artistic provocation".

"All characters, stories, music, voices and lyrics are original creations generated with the assistance of artificial intelligence tools employed as creative instruments," Velvet Sundown's profile added.

It’s now OK to keep your shoes on at some airports.

The Transportation Safety Administration will allow passengers at selected airports to keep their footwear on as they go through security checkpoints, a senior government official tells NBC News.

People in screening lanes will have to keep their shoes on at selected airports, but the source said the relaxation of the rules could expand nationwide in the near future.

The TSA has yet to announce the move formally, but stated in a Monday press release that it is "exploring new and innovative ways to enhance the passenger experience and our strong security posture."

Shoe removal has been part of the airport experience since 2006, when the TSA instituted the requirement, citing intelligence indicating a "continuing threat" of explosives.

The rule came after Richard Reid tried — and failed — to ignite his homemade shoe explosives on an American Airlines flight from Paris to Miami on Dec. 22, 2001.

Reid’s plan was disrupted when he struggled to light a fuse attached to his shoes, which contained roughly 10 ounces of explosive material, according to the FBI.

He was subdued by passengers and crew members and taken into custody when the flight diverted to Logan International Airport in Boston.

Reid pleaded guilty to terrorism charges and is serving a life sentence at a "Supermax" prison in Colorado.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A 19-year-old man is accused of beating a man, pouring bleach on him and kidnapping his child.

Charles Coffman is charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, theft and tampering with evidence.

According to warrants, police were called to do a welfare check at 1200 Mercer Street around 8:45 a.m. Sunday. The warrants said someone called in saying they were concerned Coffman may have murdered a man and kidnapped his 3-year-old daughter.

Police forced entry into the home and found a naked man in the bathroom with a serious head injury and noted a strong smell of bleach, the warrants state. Police said they did not find the child and put a BOLO call for the victim's car, which had been stolen.

According to the warrants, Sevierville police stopped the car and found Coffman, a woman and the 3-year-old in the car. The child was taken to East Tennessee Children's Hospital for an evaluation, the warrants said.

The warrants said the victim suffered a subdural hematoma and other possible serious injuries. Police were not able to interview the victim.

When police interviewed the suspect, the warrants said Coffman's mother called from jail and told him to go to the home on Mercer Street to get the child on Saturday or Sunday. Coffman said an Uber took him and a woman to the house. The warrants clarify that it's the same woman who was later found with Coffman in the stolen car.

According to the warrants, Coffman said he got into the fight with the victim, slammed him to the ground, hit him in the face multiple times, hit him with a plunger and stuffed it into the victim's mouth.

The warrants said Coffman admitted to dragging the victim into the bathroom, stripping him naked and pouring bleach on the victim's wounds. He also admitted to taking the victims' car, but he said he had permission from his mother to take it.
