She proves that your past has nothing to do with what you do with your future.

I was born in prison..... I can hear Hank Williams, Jr singing that as the first line of a country song.

Kills all the lazy -arse arguments that start with, “society kept me from succeeding since the day I was born”

Great story.

And the dad.... Now he's a real man.

Just replace 'at' with 'near' and it would be accurate. Words have meaning.

Only fifth or sixth grade level English writing was required.

Great for the girl.

Good for her. Its always good to see a young person succeed. With that said, her being born in prison reminded me of a conversation I had a few days ago.

How many of these people who are out killing people and showing that they do not value life at all.. were born from a mother who was an addict? And is that part of the problem today?

This stemmed from someone whose family member is an addict, had a kid that she gave up for adoption and the kid had to stay in the hospital for 4 weeks because the kid was born an addict and they have to first give the kid morphine and then ween him off or something. How does something like that impact people?

Ah yes, pedophiles are notoriously attracted to checks notes college-aged women.

I'm sure a story like this upsets you terribly. Must be frustrating

Awesome story, good on her. And good on Harvard (contrary to some of the backhanded whining in this thread) for seeking out diversity of background and experience instead of lazily relying on race or ethnicity as a shorthand for it.

The only people who believe that poor are doomed to stay poor are those that have never experienced success in their lives. They don't believe humans are capable of improving.

There's no reason healthy people cannot have some measure of success and its not societies fault if they fail.

And that's why she probably got into Harvard.

Great story but it's obviously something she uses to promote herself.

When used in this context it usually means top 5%.

She was fortunate to have a great mentor with Hamby. Success happens with a much greater frequency when you have someone looking out for you that has connections. Parents need to accept outside influences more to provide guidance that they can not. Sounds like this father did, and it really worked out.

Not taking away that she worked hard, but any parent knows it's as much a moment for the parent as it is for the kid. More just because the guy did it as a single parent.

Ironically all of her peers and superiors at Harvard would prefer she had been aborted.

Happy for her. Any girl born in prison and raised by her father deserves a shot if she is able to finish 3rd in her class.

That said, I hope she resists the SJW brainwashing coming her way at Harvard.
