A Texas girl who was born in jail is making a name for herself after graduating from high school at the top of her class, with plans to attend Harvard University. Eighteen years after she was born in the Galveston County Jail, Aurora Sky Castner graduated third in her class at Conroe High School on Thursday night, The Courier reported. Castner’s mother was in jail when she gave birth to her. She has not played a role in her daughter's life since the day Castner's father picked her up as a newborn from the prison, raising her as a single father, the outlet said. According to the Courier, Castner opened her application essay to Harvard with the sentence, "I was born in prison." She was later accepted into the Ivy League through early action, and the teen plans to study law when she attends the school in the fall.

Props to this man.

I hope all of the Family Court judges who bend fathers over in their courtroom read this article.

She didn't apply to 187 colleges so we could sit in awe over her offers?

I'd be willing to be children raised by single fathers have much better outcomes than children raised by single mothers.

Harvard read this sentence and immediately accepted her. Not saying she didn't deserve it, but those schools love a good sad story.

Nature vs Nurture at the most basic level.

ETA: Also, the irony of her being born in a Galveston, TX jail and being named Aurora Sky isn't lost on me.

Harvard is liberal trash. They admitted her based on the story. Cudo’s to her for beating the odds.

That's wonderful for her. Great to see you can still succeed despite a rocky start.

But since when is graduating 3rd being "at the Top of Her Class"? Might be nitpicking, but they stretched that just a bit.
