This is kind of funny but big time concerning.

The government wants this technology in all cars, not just Waymo.
Judging by yesterday's threads on flock cameras, there are some posters who would support that too.

This should happen Waymo often.

all of a sudden, I am a bigger fan of driverless cars than I thought I would be.

Illegal detainment at the very least.

A damn shame.
Pretty sure there's a fitting quote from Ben Franklin for this situation.

Nanny state conspiracies aside. I've used Waymo twice in Austin for a short distance taxi, mostly to see how it worked. I'm quite positive there is a way to manually unlock the door from the inside, just not the outside. Seems there would be major liability risk with locking someone inside of car.

What happens when the government can send the Waymo robot to grab me?

This is kind of weird. The soft drink thing very weird, the alcohol thing sort of weird.
You've never given your son a sip of beer? Or let him have some wine with dinner? Maybe Louisiana is just different
ETA:
I don't drink soft drinks nor do we keep them in our house really, but my kids have had sprites and fantas, etc. out at dinner and birthday parties.
Crazy he's made it to 15 without ever having one.

Yeah, ceding arrest authority to a driverless car seems obviously stupid.
Which seems to apply to a few posters in this thread.

Uhh yeah.
What if they mistakenly think someone is breaking the law, lock the doors, then the car catches on fire or someone inside has a health emergency?
This probably shouldn't be a feature.

Do you live in Utah? Are you LDS?

Yes.

No.
I gave up drinking over a decade ago. Haven't missed it at all.
Just a different lifestyle than most (nationwide) I suppose. But most of our neighbors don't drink either so there is no social pressure in that regard.
I have nothing against alcohol and those that (legally) make that choice, it's just not for me (nor my family).
