Last time I went, it had been about a decade since my previous visit, and the dentist told me my teeth looked great. Only reason I went there is because I had a 20-year-old filling fail and my tooth basically broke in half. They put a crown on it and I haven't been back since. That was 3 years ago. I brush morning and night and floss daily. If you have good dental hygiene then you don't necessarily need a professional to regularly clean your teeth. I'd say that it's gross if you consistently have plaque on your teeth that requires professional cleaning. In that case then you might need to improve your personal hygiene habits.
