The 15-year-olds were allegedly drinking and shooting water beads from a toy gun when they were basically busted by the driverless vehicle, which remotely prevented them from leaving it until police arrived.

the teens allegedly were drinking alcohol and shooting Orbeez beads as they rode in the driverless car.

That prompted Waymo to remotely halt the vehicle and lock the doors, KNTV reported. The car remained in a parking lot until police arrived, according to The Mercury News.

“We were able to safely remove both subjects and determined they were shooting Orbeez from the car as they sipped on afternoon libations while being chauffeured around town in the driverless vehicle,” police wrote.

What happens when the government can send the Waymo robot to grab me? Not sure I love this.

Kirby Smart is not going to allow his football players to use Waymo vehicles I am guessing.

This is the next generation of the below picture. Why steal grandmamma's car when I can get a driverless car to drive me around?

This was a private company who essentially held them until police could arrive. No different than Walmart security holding shoplifters until the cops can come.

The government wants this technology in all cars, not just Waymo.

Either the police used AI with the synonyms lookup or that police department is full of nerds. I want my police to be brutal, not grandiloquent

Reads like the Bee. I have a hard time believing the cops actually said that.

Kids drinking at 15? My son is this same age. He's never even had a soft drink, much less had the desire to drink alcohol. So many questions.....

On the flip side, he'll occasionally shoot dad with a nerf gun...

I have some questions of my own.

He's in high school and never even had a coke? Like at a ballgame or cookout or whatever...never!?

Never. And has no desire to do so. In fact, it's something he's very proud of.

Eta: He will drink sports drinks, lemonade and tea, which are basically the same (with regards to sugar). But just no drinks with "bubbles".

Well, at least I didn’t have to look up “libations”. However, I did have to search for “Orbeez”.

How does this work on a hot day when the police may not show up for an hour or two?

I don’t gaf about these punks, but I’m not climbing in a driverless vehicle that can remotely lock me up.
