How about we require everyone to leave their door open all day so we can make sure no one is living in the garage?“

I can think of at least one better way. Burn all of the garages to the ground. Everyone wins. Residents done have to follow some ridiculous rule to leave a door open, and the HOA doesn't have to worry about squatters.

Stupidity. Houses look better with garages closed.

Glad I don't live is Ca.

I guess my question is, is it illegal to have someone living in a garage, assuming it meets code for egress and what not?

Or is there just a bylaw in the HOA that you can't have people living in garages?

It's California. Just tell the HOA they have no right to come take your squatter. It's a sanctuary neighborhood in a sanctuary state and you are providing sanctuary to one in need.

People in California love Government so they are being very hypocritical when they complain about Government, which is what an HOA really is -- it is Government.

Why the frick are they talking to a 9 year old?
. To be fair that 9 year old is smarter than anyone involved with that HOA.

People filling their garages with junk and leaving their cars in the driveway is the epitome of trash.

Multiply it by 10 if they do it and leave their garage door open all day.

Quickest way to make your neighborhood street look like Jennifer Jean.

I live in a pretty nice subdivision. No renters or leasers allowed. I'm fairly certain that is a standard clause amongst HOAs in the Mandeville Madisonville area.

We have a similar rule, but you can rent them out for long term leases (6+ months) only after owning the house for 2 years. Basically just to stop the common Nashville issue of AirBnb only properties.

I live in some townhomes and we have an HOA to take care of landscaping and pool maintenance. If they told me I had to leave my garage open I'd laugh in their face.

I would literally brick up the garage and mount fake garage doors on that, then sue those frickers when they fined me.

Every time, until they rescinded that stupid rule.

frick California.

(ETA: Even better - paint a mural of an open garage on the outside of the doors.)

Just wait until someone gets home invaded and killed and the perp uses the garage to gain entry.

That'll be nice on that HOA's conscience.

I leave my garage door open during the day. I rigged it up with a hog trap lever so it slams shut when a burglar goes in there

I kept one guy in there for like 3 weeks one time. After he grilled all the meat in the fridge he had to eat dog food. turns out it was the meter reader

You live in a nice enough neighborhood(with or without an HOA)...any homes that would be up for rent are gonna have higher rents that would keep away the trashy renters.

LOL

You can't be this stupid?

First, I doubt this rule would withstand a legal challenge. Second, the HOA is exposing themselves to pretty unnecessary liability.

Yeah, something gets stolen and I'm taking an invoice to the HOA. Those nannies need a dose of reality.

This is what happens when people join HOA's because they want someone to think for them.

Yes, this is totally the norm for people who buy a house with an HOA.

Its almost like they need someone to tell them what to do with their own house and land.

No, I just need them to tell the neighbors what to do.
