Open garage doors are trashy
And they're an incidental violation of the HOA in my old subdivision. If garage doors there were left open, trash bins would be visible from the street and society as we know it would fricking collapse.

So a person is not allowed to sleep in their garage?
Why would they care if you rented a room in your garage to someone? I wonder if it's more a Silicon Valley situation where Erlich Bachman was running a business out of his home against HOA rules?

This is, but that's California.
Not even close to resembling the USA.

It is. But people that live in HOA neighborhoods choose to live in little mini fascists communities.
They deserve this.

Apparently someone had a person living in their garage.
The horror.
I want to be on that board.
"Someone had a person living in their garage. We can't let that happen. Let's discuss some ways to avoid this problem in the future."
"How about we require everyone to leave their door open all day so we can make sure no one is living in the garage?“
"Welp, I doubt we'll get any better ideas than that. Let's make it official."
I bet the HOA is run by Joe Alleva.

It would be against the law in most municipalities, I imagine. A garage doesn't pass building code/inspection for purposes of inhabitability.

Exactly. Did you notice how fast that lady was to roll over? She is willing to let them inspect her garage and she is willing to pay $200 without a fight. Are CA people that beat down that they don’t even question or fight back?

I moved out of a neighborhood with an HOA and into a gentrifying neighborhood.
I will say the gunshots and occasionally rowdiness bothers me less than the HOA did.
frick those people. Bunch sad stay at home moms with an empty nest who need something to bitch about

Stupid shite like this is part of why I am moving from my new development with a HOA to an older one without one.
You pay for the privelige of getting fricked with by “condo commandos” ostensibly under the guise of keeping property values up.

it is like people have this fear that living in an area with no rules (with the exception of municipal code enforcement), that basic society will break down. Yards will overgrow and people will put tireless vehicles in front of the house. It is irrational.
It is like that episode of The Office where Michael left for the day. Nobody even realized that there was no management in the office to enforce any kind of policy...the office just functioned normally and everyone did their stuff like adults.

My HOA is pretty good. Never had a problem. Glad it and the covenants are in place. No renting or leasing.

This article is pretty absurd. I understand the premise behind it but much better ways to enforce this than having the garage doors left open all day.
I don't mind my HOA. They aren't really overbearing. The only things they enforce are making sure yards/houses look clean, mailboxes the same. It provides a community pool and gym and family events.

You must live in a crappy neighborhood where the rents would be so cheap that the HOA would actually worry about this.
You live in a nice enough neighborhood(with or without an HOA)...any homes that would be up for rent are gonna have higher rents that would keep away the trashy renters.
