I drive my 98 jeep wrangler every day. I like the stick. It keeps me focused on the road and the car. No time for texting.

Tacoma 5 speed
370Z 6 speed
Miata 5 speed,
Yukon Automatic
Sierra Automatic
G35 Automatic
The entire family can operate manual transmissions... 3 of us prefer shifting .
My wife drove the hell out of a 300Z back in the day.

That's not the only stick she knows how to work.

sitting in Baton Rouge traffic every day get to g into the bridge, I'm glad I don't have a manual trans!

Now...this is true. I've driven nothing but manual for over 20 years, so at this point I really don't ever think about shifting, hitting the clutch, etc. After a while all that becomes second nature and it's just part of feeling the vehicle.

But...driving in bumper to bumper traffic with it can be fricking brutal. Likewise, if there's traffic and you're heading up an incline it can be a giant pain in the arse. Not just to do it...especially for new drivers who getting freaked out by the prospect, but because there are so few manuals on the road asshats will get 6" from your bumper on an incline while everyone is stopped and then looked enraged at you the entire time as the vehicle slides back a few inches every time as you re-engage the gear to move forward.

Learned how to drive on a stick, and I'm in my 20's. Learned in a best buy parking lot. Kept stalling until I got it

Don't drive one now but on the occasion where I've had to get in one and drive, still shift as smooth as butter. If I wasn't commuting so long every day I may still have one. They can come up with all the algorithms in the world, but I knew when I was about to try and pass someone and could downshift, whereas an automatic takes a split second to figure it out.

Speak for yourself. I've been doing it for 40 years.

Now adding texting to the equation is work.

I drive a stick daily and I love it

one of the last "luxury" sedans they offered in a stick

Infinity G37S

Its funny at a car wash or valet, when I tell them its a stick i either have to move it myself or wait for the special designated manual driver to arrive

I didn't until I went to Europe awhile, may have forgotten.

Why is it important? in case society fails and I stumble upon a stick shift car on the side of the road?

but if someone takes driver's ed they ought to teach 'em, wouldn't hurt

Both my wife and I have manuals...but unfortunately these will likely be our last vehicles with them. They were both incredibly difficult to find and we paid a premium for them, but I take damn good care of them so I hope they last a very long time.

I can drive a standard, but what's so good about it?

I bet only a select few can make fire out of sticks, i use a lighter.

While I prefer autos for offroad, I am picking up another yxz in a few weeks.

Sequential manual.

I learned in an 83 ford ranger diesel. 4 on the floor.

What??? Suddenly an "emergency" will convert the vast majority of vehicles from auto to manual???

If auto technology makes every day driving more efficient and easier, then standard transmissions will fade away (we are seeing that)

I will admit, I have driven manual, but it's been years. I'd look stupid and would be stalling all over the place.

My first three cars were manual. Loved them.

I havent had one in a few years, and I miss it. Whoever said they cant drink a beer and drive a stick sucks at it. I could eat, drink and shift all at once.

Way higher thsn that! Just cause folks dont show the public doesn't mean they can't. Not many people willing to pay extra for the standard eaither. And resale is hard as frick. Unless you're on the west coast. That's where the stick shift market is.
