2 of my previous cars were manual(both small cars though). So I know how to drive stick shift....just really prefer automatic.

My husband's Rubicon is a manual(he had to specially order it that way). I've still never driven his jeep and we just use my jeep for road trips now for that reason(I don't want to deal with driving his jeep).

I just kind of catch the brake with my big toe and then rock side to side to goose the gas so I guess that's the same thing you are talking about

another advantage to a stick is that you don't ride the brake so much as some ppl do in an auto

I definitely didn't buy the jeep with concerns about fuel mileage. The fuel tank is only 16 gallons so I'm constantly filling it up but damn, when the top and doors are off in weather like we've had the past two weeks...

I had a stick and in Houston it was awful. Modern transmission on sports cars shift faster than humans. It's fun and all but is not needed now. I probably won't even have to teach my kids to drive, much less drive a stick in 15 years.

When I get in an automatic car I immediately push my left foot to the floor in the hole in the drivers foot well to start it. I'm lost in an auto now because when I begin to decelerate I feel like I should be doing something to prevent stalling.

They're far from novelties, wait your manual has decent control? How does that work? My wife's has hill/decline start assist, for 3 seconds, and it's pretty trick.

I get scared in an auto since it wants to go unless you're riding the brakes. I let off the brake in my manuals when I'm stopped since we live where it's flat...ill just flash the brake lights if someone's coming up behind me. I think that's the beauty of manuals in traffic, you don't have to ride the damn brakes.

My damn car has hill start assist. It won't let go of the brake if it detects you're on a hill till you hit he gas. I grew up driving tractors and diesel pickups that don't need the skinny pedal to get rolling and don't have automatic brakes. Killed the fricking thing about 5 times trying to get out of the dealership parking lot trying to take off against the damn brakes. I didn't know there was such a thing as hill start assist

Novelty in that it's rare.

Decent control is similar to Hill start assist. It may be a rubicon thing. My manual in 4lo you can let off everything, no gas, no clutch, you hold on to the wheel and it will control your RPM to keep crawling up or down hills. Say you are crawling straight in 4lo and get to a levee, the computer will notice the need for RPM, increase it, and climb at a steady pace. It will lower the RPM and engine brake for you on the way down.

You can stand on the brake pedal and pull the EBrake and the damn thing won't stall. Computer will take over.

That's only in 4low or with the assist feature turned on.

ETA: I leave it off because it's weird when I let off the brake on an incline and the vehicle stays in the same spot.

And even fewer than that can drive a covered wagon pulled by oxen. Today's youth are so fricked.
